#Coronavirus #coronavirusuk Thread:
A suspected #Covid19 male patient is lying in bed in the hospital, wearing an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose. A young student female nurse appears...."Nurse,"' he mumbles from behind the mask, "are my testicles black?"
Embarrassed, the young nurse replies, "I don't know, Sir. I'm only here to wash your upper body and feet."
He struggles to ask again, "Nurse, please check for me. Are my testicles black?"

Advice for COVID19:
1. Treat early when upper respiratory infection don't want it to become a lower respiratory infection.
2. Have a steamy shower daily or steam inhale - helps breathing and may counter virus in throat.
3. Brush teeth and gargle with warm water - as warm as you can - again trying to inhibit virus in throat.
4. Vitamin D3, vit C, and zinc daily as supportive.
5. Povidone iodine 1% + water 99% gargle frequently during day.
6. Quercetin supplements if you can get them.
7. Licquorice - contains glycherizen which has some anti-viral activity against corona viruses.
8. Loperamide potentially also an anti-viral for covid19.
9. Angiotensin receptor blockers ARBs may also be protective against covid19. If you take them for high blood pressure.

Jan 9th the WHO told us #Coronavirus was a potential Pandemic.

Today. Finally. The Sunday Times noticed we'd wasted the time.

But even they've made it about #Cummings. The rot is deeper.

A free press is whistleblower & protector. A thread on their scrutiny of #COVID19.

How long should we give UK Press to notice? Major viral outbreak notifications are severe alerts.
The Government must jump into action.

So how long to ask for a press conference?
To ask for a status?

A week? Two weeks?

Let's be kind.

Let's give them a month.
Feb 9th

The Express was cheering at the economic boom we'd get from Brexit.

The Mail worried about Harry Dunn?

Observer fretted about health security.

Telegraph bemoaned a potential mansion tax and pensions raid.
How ironic.

None spotted no containment at airports.

Thread: Virus Diary #coronavirusUK
*disclaimer - I haven't been tested for the virus, but I am now 90+% sure I have contracted it. A cluster of symptoms I've never experienced, and one in particular that is completely new to me. I'll get to that shortly.
2. Why am I doing this? I think it is a good idea to share any experiences we can (and are comfortable with) on platforms like Twitter so we can all understand this a bit better. I reckon it also makes it seem a bit more real. Importantly, it can be reassuring.
3. I reckon I am on day 3. Initially, on Sunday evening, I just felt tired, with a fuzzy headache. A bit blurred around the lines. Feeling light headed followed - again, nothing too significant. On Monday, I was still on A/L.

Please take a deep breath, sit down, take this in and stay calm. We will get through this but it's important to understand how big it is so we can ALL do our part. A Thread to try to clearly explain the best currently public evidence on #coronavirusuk:
1/ I think the current plan makes sense but should be stepped up to closures everywhere now. The government should not be asking people they need to tell institutions to shut. Shut the schools and universities, shut the pubs and restaurants so they can claim on their business...
2/ insurance, Shut the shops to buy time for increasing intensive care capacity (that specialist 1000 bed hospital built in Wuhan in a week? We need that 150 times over without quick shut down).

The team whose modelling estimates advised Cobra are presenting their modelling. They modelled controlled spread and realised 250,000 would die. Now advise stronger intervention to suppress - but no idea how long it will need to be in place. #coronavirusuk

New advice from UK government: "we are approaching the fast growth part of upward curve. Cases could double every 5-6 days". If you have symptoms stay at home for 14 days. Do not go out. Ideally ask others for help #coronavirus
Boris Johnson: "Everyone now must stop all non-essential contact. Everyone must now work at home if they can. Especially over-70s, pregnant women and those with underlying conditions"
"In a few days we will go further. The vulnerable will be shielded from others for 12 weeks".

A thread.

One strategy that countries adopted for the Corona Virus is to contain it. Stop it from spreading. China, with draconian measures, has achieved this. Once a virus is contained, it can no longer spread. It simply dies out.

South Korea, focussed on identifying all infected individuals, and who they had been in contact with, and isolated them. South Korea implemented a massive testing exercise. Testing *everyone*.

The UK HealthSec - paid £141k+expenses from taxpayers' £ - has chosen to put his #Coronavirus update behind a paywall.

For those of you who don't have a Telegraph subscription, here are the main points.

(Frankly, @MattHancock you should be ashamed of yourself.)

"The coronavirus outbreak is the biggest public health emergency in a generation.

It calls for dramatic action, at home and abroad, of the kind not normally seen in peacetime."

Then goes on to express sadness at 21 deaths. All victims had underlying health conditions.

Hancock claims we have a plan "based on the expertise of world-leading scientists" and that #HerdImmunity is not a part of it.

"The over-riding objective is to protect life."

[Note: Telegraph earlier reported #coronavirusuk could be a way to *cull* the elderly...🙄)

Quick thread with a small action we could all do today to make a difference ⬇️⬇️⬇️

If the decision is taken to do this it’s because the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientific Advisor deem it to be absolutely essential and critical to protect health.…
It will have huge ramifications for people’s day to day life with practical implications but also wide-ranging and longterm impacts on mental health and wellbeing.
I know many others including specialist organisations and charities in those fields will be working through what can be done to counter that.

@peterjukes @BorisJohnson 1/. It was actually TEN days ago that @BorisJohnson first mentioned the ‘take in on the chin’ theory.

He told it to @Schofe & @hollywills on #ThisMorning on Thursday, 5 March.

A clip of him saying this was tweeted by @mvdct on the same day.

What happened next was remarkable...
@peterjukes @BorisJohnson @Schofe @hollywills @mvdct On Sunday evening, after a tip off from @CereinynOrd (follow her for #coronavirus), I tracked down the clip of the interview.

The clip beings with Boris saying: "One of the theories is, that perhaps you could take it on the chin, take it all in one go..."
@peterjukes @BorisJohnson @Schofe @hollywills @mvdct @CereinynOrd 3./ He goes on: "...& allow the disease, as it were, to move through the population, without taking as many draconian measures. I think we need to strike a balance."

To me there were two possible explanations for what Boris had said.

The second far more chilling than the first.

Punditry on #coronavirusuk is
A) politicised
B) strawmans UK gov scientist position
C) raises risk factors that apply (to a greater extent) to any strategy regardless
D) is overly siloed & dismissive of UK’s interdisciplinary approach
E) fails to provide an alternative plan
And I repeat, it is a plan subscribed to by UK Chief Science Officer (Dr Spock’s position?!) Sir Patrick Vallance, and UK Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty that I’m explaining here. This is not PM Boris Johnson’s plan, though he obviously signed off on it
F) Also, citing “successful lockdowns” as examples of successful policy is to cite an incomplete experiment too. Those countries cannot sustain lockdown. UK gov. expert view is that the virus will bounce back as soon as the lockdown is over, because no “herd immunity” was built

Person opposite me on the train, coughed directly at me without covering their mouth. Got out my hand sanitiser and used it to wipe down the back of my laptop while looking him dead in the eye.
Too passive aggressive? #CoronavirusUK
For the record, all of my hand sanitiser was bought pre-CoronaPanic. The only one I've bought since, I've sent to my little brother in New York because he has to deal with the subway and he couldn't find a single one in the shops.
Great, now he's actually talking to his mate about how he has a cough and that if he has it he'll self-isolate at home. Thanks, dude. That really helps me.

Day 8 in bed ill - a timeline:

Sat 29th - arrive back in London from Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia trip. No health checks at Heathrow. Temperature screening station unmanned.

Tues 2nd - getting a runny nose, headache and mild cough. Temperature of 39.8c. Self isolate.
Wed 3rd - 00.30 start getting a fever and by 4am temperature is 40.5c

05:00 call NHS111, poor UX on automated system but go through to a call who clearly didn’t know procedure. Promised a call back.
11:00 Receive a call from NHS111 repeat all information including travel and fact partner is a school teacher. Explain cough is mild 3/10 and not very dry. Told it’s just flu and no need to self isolate.

11:30 Get a call back - checking cough has phlegm in it - a little.

"In every country we passed through we were strictly monitored at the border for contagion. Including IR fever technology.
Except one.
The UK.
Checks were completely lacking."

@BorisJohnson is writing a book in the full knowledge that the day job is protecting the realm.

What does COVID-19 actually do to your body?

@PaulNuki explains all the ways your body could react to #coronavirus…
When coronavirus enters your body:

👉 It binds to two cells in the lungs - goblet cells that produce mucus and cilia cells.

👉 The virus attacks these cells and starts to kill them.

This lasts a week #CoronavirusOutbreak #coronavirusuk…
You will develop a fever and start to get rid of the mucus with a runny nose and coughing.

But for some, their immune system could fight off the virus AND kill healthy cells.

This can trigger a “cytokine storm”

One day I'm going to find a vocal brexiteer who's read the EU Citizens Rights Directive... One day... I swear!!
Yes that's the same Directive that disproves the Brexit narrative about uncontrolled immigration.

It's almost as if those arguing that it was unregulated, have always counted on people being ignorant of the regulations.
Nigel Farage perverted the course of British history with a narrative that he later admitted was false.
He took advantage of people's lack of knowledge.
