COVID DEATHS BY AGE, ENGLAND,
w/e 8 Mar 2020 - 1 Aug 2021

The risk of death with/of Covid varies enormously with age. England data show this clearly.

The difference is so great that one cannot usefully plot all ages together (without resorting to log or other methods). At this scale, only the top (oldest) few age bands are clearly visible. The younger ages are also shown - but they are too small to see.
2/

Here we zoom in 10 x on the vertical (y) axis. The older groups, now off the top of the chart, have been faded for clarity. The age bands shown, 0-64, together account for ~11% of total deaths in the period. That is to say, 89% of deaths occurred in people of aged 65 & older.

At 100x vertical zoom we show age bands from 0-44 years, which together account for ~1.3% of total deaths. Even at this scale, those under ~20 years of age are hardly visible.

Finally, at 1000x vertical zoom we see the youngest age groups. The noisy, 'jagged' nature of this chart is due to the - thankfully - extremely low numbers.

One can make various observations from these charts. For example, it can be seen that recent weeks (as at w/e 1 Aug 2021) show far lower deaths than in previous peaks. This seems to be the case in all age bands, although the reduction is largest in older people.

The key observation is that the risk of Covid death is hugely age dependent &, while never 0, is v low in the young. This chart shows % of total deaths occurring in "up to age X". E.g. people aged 0-19 constitute only ~0.06% of all Covid deaths.
This is vitally important.
