Ahead of the crucial climate summit @COP26 in Glasgow, next week we're expecting the UK government to publish:

💼The Net Zero Strategy
🏦The Net Zero Review
🏘️Heat and Buildings Strategy

We've set out four tests for next week's announcements in this thread 🧵

Test 1⃣

A credible #NetZeroStrategy is a plan for how the UK will deliver on its National Determined Contribution & be an example for others ahead of #COP26🌏

It must outline expected emissions savings from each sector & provide a robust plan for the government to work towards

Test 2⃣

The strategies must set out the actual policies that will help us get to #NetZero & cut emissions

Read our Net zero policy tracker for more

These policies include 👇

🏘️A Heat and Buildings Strategy with £4 billion in annual funding & a gas boiler phase-out

⚡️🚗 A Zero Emission Vehicle mandate on carmakers and a fossil-fuelled trucks phase-out

🚜A plan to cut methane emissions from agriculture by 30% by 2030

🎯A target to halve resource consumption by 2050

👷‍♂️A target to meet near-zero emissions steel by 2035, with a commitment to a hydrogen-based steel pilot

Test 3⃣

Ambitious green investment to support the plan set out in the #NetZeroStrategy

This must involve an extra £22bn per year over the next three years

Test 4⃣

The government must clearly communicate the economic benefits of #NetZero & make the most of them, including:

👷‍♂️Job creation
💪Higher productivity
⚡️Resource & energy security
🫁 Healthier air & diets
🏡Warmer homes
🚴‍♀️More active travel
