72.01/ Week seventy-two, Nov. 27-Dec. 3, 2021, thread begins here.

Week 71 below.

72.02/ Schoolhouse Rock is on Disney+! I couldn't resist going through all the grammar episodes the instant I found out.

72.03/ Re: the embarrassing #Steelers loss and the state/fate of the team going forward; this thread is pretty much on the money. This is one year in the midst of a rebuild. (I'd like to see the DC go too, though. He's coasted on talent too long)

72.04/ I'm looking for a video, but this GIF of #SNF's "Cleveland Browns as the AFC North Court Jester" is mildly cheering me up. It's been a bad week of Football, alright?

72.05/ In my relatively expert opinion, #Hanukkah should not be labeled a "minor" holiday. Lag B'Omer, Tu B'shvat, Tu B'av - these are minor holidays. Hanukkah is 8 days, full Torah reading, full Hallel. It's more intense than Rosh Chodesh or Pesach Sheni, which are Biblical.

72.06/ Like many of you, I've been under a cloud today because of the imminent destruction of abortion rights by a revanchist SCOTUS that glorifies theocratic cruelty. As I've said before: I'm pro-abortion and the USA must preserve that human right.

72.07/ Brief #NYR interlude: our goalie Shesterkin is amazing. And he needs a nickname! The golden age of sports nicknames seems to have passed (my theory: it coincides with the waning of dominance of print media)

72.08/ Everyone knows, and even unprompted I would declare openly, that my favorite Greek letter is omicron. Just a #Hanukkah irony that my favorite part of that culture would be ruined by plague.

Couldn't it have been "eta" or - better - "mu"?!

72.09/ Very good thread about how many on the internet wittingly or robotically spread propaganda to undermine our free society. The internet poses as a library but it's a toxic war-zone, fighting for your mind and spirit.

72.10/ I'm a unique unpredictable individual and yet, as my kids would tell you, I'm way too often an uncanny mashup of @MSchmutter and @Pittsburgh_Dad. The video below is nearly word for word my monologue on Sunday night. Eerie!

72.11/ Finally, some action is being taken against the enablers of abuse, in this case the OU/NCSY for aiding & abetting #Lanner.

I've been fighting him and his ilk for decades, as I wrote about here 20 years ago:

72.12/ Similar to 72.09 above, a thread about online doomsayers. As before, please be wary of the propaganda ops all around us here. Another group, however, are those who suffer from overwhelming anxiety/depression and vent online, spreading their doom.

72.13/ I haven't said much about the Mets signing Scherzer but it's a bit mind-blowing. And I'm extraordinarily gun-shy about showing hope in a team that seems designed to crush youthful optimism. Ah well #LGM

72.14/ Good safety tip - we also have a fire extinguisher & a pitcher of water set up near them.

The mounted deer head on the wall is a nice touch because it declares "we have no idea what a typical American Jewish household looks like" and that's cute.

72.15/ Perfect response to the scandalous double standard by CNN.

CNN claims they “understood [Chris Cuomo's] need to put his family first and his job second”

@cindygallop's response? "Said no employer to a woman ever."

72.16/ Trump (ym"sh) was definitely not the worst person on Earth but he WANTED to be. And that matters.

72.17/ Any close watcher of MLB last 2 seasons saw that they changed the baseballs. Now it's been revealed to be true.

And I also remember Pete Alonso getting dragged for noticing it. That's textbook gaslighting.

72.18/ A reason why I feel the GOP's revanchist crusade to destroy rights for women (Roe) & minorities (voter suppression) is so horrifying is that they're destroying already enshrined human rights as opposed to maintaining the past's undemocratic status-quo. It's *active* evil.

72.19/ This is a creepy dystopian window into the anti-women crusade of the religious right:

72.20/ This is pretty cool (h.t. @WholesomeMeme)
Alt: "Today's date is both a palindrome and an ambigram: you can read it from left to right or right to left, as well as upside down."
1202221 [works only in digital numerals]

72.21/ Happy Birthday to all who celebrate!

72.22/ I totally agree: statistics over calculus. You should've seen me when my kids's HS Math teacher gave us the option of eschewing calc for stats. I played it cool, but I was turning cartwheels in my head.

72.23/ A cromulent alignment chart for how to spell #Hanukkah via @Yair_Rosenberg. We can quibble about the margins but the core is a consensus view, I'd say.

72.24/ Candidates for best invention after sliced bread: (1) spellcheck, (2) seedless grapes, (3) seedless watermelon.

Yes, real ones are: (1) internet, (2) COVID vaccine, (3) air conditioning, etc. but I assume the original aphorism is meant to be ironic in its understatement.

72.25/ #HappyHanukkah everyone, may you light in time, have a easy, light Shabbas, and be safe and well.

#ShabbatShalom everyone.
