Science and maths peer mentoring in schools

We are stocked to have In2science mentor Annelisa (@RigoniStella) from @RMIT take over our Twitter for #TakeoverThursday!
Annelisa is a PhD candidate in Chemistry, who is going to talk about some of the things they have learnt during their past 8 years of study in STEM at RMIT!

First up – my very first few years at @RMIT! Completing 2 degrees in Applied Science & Nanotechnology, I learnt so much about how the world around us works on the smaller scale – and also how to make cool compounds in the chemistry labs!

During these first four years completing these degreed, I also had the opportunity to tour the Australian Synchrotron @ANSTO, which I learnt is currently used to carry out crucial research in Australia!

Year five – an Honours in Chemistry! As a member of @Prof_MSpencer's @MSpencerGroup, I’ve learnt so much about how we can use computational modelling to get up close like never before, to understand how molecules interact with both each other and surfaces at the atomic scale.

Thanks to @CSIRO, during my Honours I also had the opportunity to travel to Brisbane, to learn about how scientists working on individual projects can come together to solve bigger challenges and research issues.

Year six marked the start of my PhD in Chemistry. Due to the pandemic, I’ve (unexpectantly) learnt how important it is to set yourself small yet achievable everyday goals, and the importance of creating a plant-filled office whilst working from home.

I finish off Year 7 halfway into my PhD in chemistry. This year, I’ve learnt how important it is to me to engage with the greater community (via @In2science and other amazing opportunities) to share my passion for #STEM and #Chemistry by mentoring others!
