/Just for fun: A list of favourite huge paved cycling climbs that are NOT well known. #1 Lago del Narèt - My favourite climb in Switzerland .... 32 kms up, quiet, stunning, many dams/lakes. 11th highest paved climb in Switzerland. #cycling Details: cycling-challenge.com/lago-di-naret/
/ Plan du Lac. 7th highest paved climb in France at 2385 metres. Near the south side of Col de l'Iseran. Very quiet, dead end. Details: cycling-challenge.com/plan-du-lac-2/
3. Grosse Scheidegg is one of the most beautiful, climbs in the Alps. But I think it's reasonably well know, BUT beside it, under the Eiger North Face, is a deserted paved road to Männlichen. (I rode just beyond summit for 2 photos). Details: cycling-challenge.com/mannlichen/
/ Col du Sabot. Much higher and far, far, far quieter than its famous neighbour Alpe d'Huez. Love this climb. And don't worry, it has plenty of hairpins too. Details: cycling-challenge.com/col-du-sabot-a…
/ Lac du Vieux Emosson. You might have heard of the fabulous Swiss climb to Lac/Dam d'Emosson. Fabulous. But did you know you can ride across the dam and up to a higher dam on a tiny, steep, amazing road. Details: cycling-challenge.com/lac-demosson-a…. (Higher dam visible in 4th photo)
/ The Pyrénées? Easily my favourite climb is La Route des Lacs including Lac de Cap de Long. Higher than Tourmalet, 5 dams/lakes. Forks to two high points/lakes. Epic. Details: cycling-challenge.com/lac-de-cap-de-…
/ Col de la Moutière. Behind Cime de la Bonette (one of highest roads in Europe) Moutière is the 5th highest paved road in France! It's a turn off early in the climb of south side of Bonette. A gravel extension allows an off-road to Bonette. Details: cycling-challenge.com/col-de-la-bone…
/ You may know the gigantic Grimselpass in central Switzerland. But it is possible to continue even higher on a little known extension, often closed to cars. It leads to Oberaarsee - and is the 5th highest paved climb in Switzerland. Details: cycling-challenge.com/oberaarsee-abo…
/ Lots of my favourite climbs are to high alpine dams. The Swiss Valais region is full of these rides. The climb to Lac de Moiry is only 36 kms long! It's the 6th highest paved road in France. Details: cycling-challenge.com/lac-de-moiry-a…
/ Maybe I'll just finish with this old post detailing 28 great climbs to alpine dams/lakes as many of them are lesser known, and all are fabulous. Sanetsch, Griessee ,Teleccio, Nivolet, Sassière, Mauvoisin, Mattmarksee, etc. etc. Details: cycling-challenge.com/10-great-cycli… //THE END
