The right to protest is crucial to democracy.
Priti Patel’s #PoliceBill aims to remove this right.

It would allow the government to stop any protest & create a police state.

The #PoliceBill is now even more dangerous after "amendments" were added without proper scrutiny or debate.

These would make it even easier for peaceful protesters to be prosecuted & jailed for up to 51 weeks.

Will @UKLabour vote against them in the Lords?

"Locking on" was a key part of the Suffragettes long campaign for votes for women.

Priti Patel's #PoliceBill aims to make this a crime punishable by up to 51 weeks in prison.

Under the #PoliceBill, this sign could get me jailed if police said it was used as part of a protest that had a "relevant impact” on or caused “serious annoyance” to any 2 people, or “serious disruption” to any organisation.

That's pretty much any protest.

Here's me protesting in a "loud & annoying" way that no doubt caused "serious annoyance" to at least 2 people.

Under Priti Patel's #PoliceBill, this could be declared a "prohibited protest" & any protesters who were part of it jailed for up to 51 weeks.

If you have photos of yourself protesting, please post them with the hashtag #ProtestIsNotACrime.

The right to peacefully protest - against corruption, bad government policy or anything else - is absolutely fundamental to democracy.

Priti Patel's #PoliceBill aims to remove it.

As a barrister, @Keir_Starmer acted for road protesters, tree-dwellers, hunt saboteurs & the McLibel defendants.

The #PoliceBill & its amendments are an unprecedentedly dangerous assault on our rights. Will @UKLabour firmly oppose them in the House of Lords?

The first protest I ever went on, with the Anti-Nazi League in 1978.

It helped show the strength of public opposition to National Front racism. It disrupted roads & made a lot of noise.

Just the sort of thing that Priti Patels's #PolicingBill would outlaw.
