When villains tread through gilded halls.

Many fascists broke through,
Intent on a coup.

A nation bled, but did not quite fall.

He knew his oath
He had betrayed.

Hatred burned in their hearts

With a conman's pretense
In their ears

The sentries beset
They made good on their threats

Those chambers
They'd soon commandeer

On that courtyard so hallowed
They erected their gallows

Inside they had yet to adjourn

And the old GOP
Heeled like dogs at the knee

The election
They'd have overturned.

They came to lay siege

Fallen prey to a demagogue's lies

At their folly we laugh,
But forget not this fact;

It could easily have been you or I.

And I ask,
Just what have we learned?

An insurrection was foiled
Still we endure such turmoil

And the traitors,
They shall yet return
