#Nomuka #Tonga via Sentinel-1 #satellite, before and after the #HungaTongaHungaHaapai volcano eruption.

This island south of Nomuka looks to have been inundated, based on Sentinel-1 radar image (darker areas = water).

Using a new feature of @sentinel_hub here's a sequence of SAR radar before/Sentinel-2 true color before/and then SAR radar after where you can see where the reflectivity of the land has changed to water.

Nomuka #Tonga before/after the volcano eruption and tsunami. It would appear the main settlement on the lower left still has the major shiny buildings standing, but there is significantly more water indicated along the waterfront and in the lagoon/wet area in town.

Close view of Nomuka #Tonga before/after using @sentinel_hub - my interpretation is the middle section has evidence water intrusion and loss of structures. True color and 1/3 is a reference before the #tsunami.

Different band view of Nomuka #Tonga to show the tsunami before/after (similar satellite attitude/reflections to minimize differences from angles).

Comparison of various imaging in Nomuka. My amateur interpretation is the waves definitely hit here (south on left), largest structures intact, but possibly reflective stuff pushed up on the right side.

This reflective spot interesting. Not in any prior satellite photos, and it's above town on whatever might qualify as a hillside. #Nomuka -- my random guess is this is where everyone drove their vehicles/etc. to a high spot/safe spot from a tsunami) when the volcano erupted.
