Since 1037 released, the community has been exploding with different predictions on which fruit it may be.
This thread will explore all the candidates & attempt to determine the most likely answer.
Let's begin with the most popular predictions
Luffy's Devil Fruit: Gomu Gomu no Mi:
This is definitely the most popular prediction, many people believe that Luffy's fruit was once possessed by Joyboy himself.
The awakening of this fruit could be something hugely significant
We've already had characters compare Luffy to a Wisdom King deity and there is the underlying implication that the World Government themselves wanted this fruit.
These things definitely suggest that Luffy's fruit has untold significance.
As I had theorised before, it may be that the reason that they wanted this fruit, was because of it's compatibility with artificial fruit and giant experiments.
If you believe that this process is them trying to copy, Uranus. This may be the legend of this fruit.
Law's fruit: The Op Op no Mi:
This one is probably the most obvious candidate of the fruits that the Gorosei may be referring to.
The WG had a 5 billion price tag on this fruit because of it's immortality surgery ability & it offers the legendary personality swap power.
Beyond this, it has been teased that Law's fruit can grant the user control over the National Treasure of Mariejois.
This would certainly be something that would concern the WG.
It is known to some as the 'ultimate devil fruit'.
This would also add up with the wording of what the Gorosei are saying. "It is only a legend *now*" Meaning that it was not only a legend before.
As Sengoku states in Dressorosa. The Op Op no Mi was considered to have, 'disappeared.'
Law's fruit is a strong candidate
Kid's fruit: The Jiki Jiki no Mi:
This one is not so widely accepted but it is actually quite a legitimate possibility.
The full potential of the magnet ability has certainly not been explored & it is possible it's full awakening could equate to an Ancient Weapon.
Many people, such as @eustassvinsmoke have made theories on this already, suggesting the previous user of Kid's fruit could make islands float.
What if, the previous owner of this fruit was known other than, Oars, the Continent Puller?
This would fit the narrative of the fruit not having awakened for, "centuries upon centuries." It has not been awakened since Oars used it to pull the continents!
Toki's fruit: The Toki Toki no Mi:
This one was almost immediately suggested by a lot of people as the fruit that the Gorosei may be referring to. The ability of time travel!
This would fit the dialogue of the fruit being only a legend now & not having awakened for centuries.
It would make plenty of sense for even the Gorosei to have lost sight of this fruit by this time and to consider it just a legend. It hasn't awakened in centuries, because it has only had one user since the Void Century.
However, this would not add up so well with the idea that the Gorosei changed the name of this fruit. If it has not been a threat for 800 years, it seems unlikely that they would have cause to hide it's real name from the records of history.
This next candidate will be one that most may consider less likely but actually stick out to me as potentially likely candidate that would fit all of the criteria laid out by the dialogue.
Chopper's fruit: The Hito Hito no Mi
This one is very interesting to consider, because naturally you would not consider it at all but when you do, it actually makes quite a lot of sense.
First of all, it's worth noticing that Oda has been constantly downplaying Chopper through his bounty as a gag, but what if it's not just a gag.
It's worth remembering that Choppers fruit is the only known Zoan that offers more than 3 forms.
At first, Chopper could only utilise other forms by using the Rumble Balls, but since the timeskip, he can use more than 3 without them. The fruit is a unique Zoan type.
This is potentially added to with another gag, when Chopper become scared that Blackbeard will target him
Lastly, there is the already established association between Chopper's fruit and the process and affects of the gigantification experiments.
From Chopper's candy addiction to him losing control in Monster Point, this fruit has some relevance to those experiments.
This leads us to the interesting consideration. Is Monster Point really Chopper awakening, or is there something beyond even that? Something that would make him as colossal as Zunisha or Oars
Chopper's fruit is actually a surprisingly strong candidate.
It definitely seems that the fruit in question has to be one that the Gorosei aren't aware someone possesses. It is a just a legend now, even to them. This means it was not just a legend to them before.
So perhaps it was possessed by someone in the not so distant past.
Kanjuro's fruit: The Fude Fude no Mi:
Although this may seem like an insignificant fruit, if you actually think about it, it's power is incredibly powerful. The ability to create illusions of any kind.
This devil fruit was mysteriously possessed by the two old Kurozumi.
Where did they get this devil fruit from? Both are very familiar with fruits, each of them having a familiar fruit that we know Bon Clay & Bartolomeo have in the current timeline.
This devil fruit's origins are definitely interesting but it's probably not the one in question.
Tama's Devil Fruit: The Kibi Kibi no Mi
The ability to control animals. In it's unawakened state, it is even affective on artificial zoan users.
What about it's awakening? Would that he affective on actual zoan users?!
Interestingly, the chapter in which Tama shows the full affect of this devil fruit in action, is titled, 'Orders.'
That makes a connection directly to Zunisha, who is walking the earth for eternity because it is following an order it was given as a punishment.
Could it be that the original user of the Kibi Kibi no Mi was none other than Nika?
If he was a Mink then this would tie in to why Zunisha has protected the Mink tribe for 1,000 years.
Nika was perhaps the one who formed the age old alliance between the Minks & Kozuki.
The order that Nika gave Zunisha as it's punishment was to walk the earth for eternity until the time came to return to Wano once more.
Zunisha wants to redeem itself this time.
To ensure the meeting of the Two Sovereign succeeds this time.
