The Clark County School District is still losing teachers/licensed staff faster than ever before!

From Aug. through Jan. there have been 67% more licensed/teaching staff separations than a typical year over the same time period.

Almost 300 more than the next highest year!

There is a MUCH BIGGER difference between licensed staff quitting this year and the next highest year than between the next highest year and the lowest year over the last decade!

There is an unprecedented exit of teachers from CCSD this year!

On avg, at this point in the school year, just over 10 licensed staff have left because they are “Dissatisfied with the District”

This school year 5 times as many licensed/teaching staff have left CCSD for that reason.

Almost triple the next highest year.

3.5 times more licensed staff have left this school year to go teach in another Nevada district.

They’re not leaving the teaching profession, they’re leaving CCSD.

And they awarded more teacher certifications in the last year.

In Chicago Public Schools, the nation’s 3rd largest school district, teacher vacancy rates have been improving throughout this school year.

In Washoe, Nevada’s second-largest district, they are reporting a teacher turnover rate lower than the national average.

There is No "Big Quit" in K-12 Education

Chad Aldeman, of Georgetown’s Edunomics Lab, wrote last month that there is no evidence of a mass exodus of staff in education this school year based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data.

If there is currently NO evidence of a national teacher exodus, why do people keep saying it’s happening?

The Rand Corporation got a ton of national attention last year when they reported that 1 in 4 teachers said they were likely to leave their job by the end of the school year

But it NEVER happened

25% of teachers did not leave the workforce

Wall Street Journal published an article claiming teachers were quitting at higher rates than all other industries.

Then they put out a correction that it was based on “Private education services” data, which does NOT include K-12 public education teachers!

Yes, you are hearing stories of districts having trouble filling vacancies.

But trouble filling vacancies is NOT the same as a mass exodus of existing staff.

Let’s take a closer look at the vacancy rate in CCSD…

In December, CCSD said they had 850 vacancies and that 97-98% of licensed positions were filled.

Let’s check if that can possibly be true…

CCSD had a 4.4% vacancy rate.

Let’s take a deeper look at how that compares to the rates across the nation that we could find.

It’s worse than it looks…

In comparison, Philadelphia’s licensed staff count is UP year over year.

Vacancy rates do not tell the whole story!

Philadelphia & CCSD do not have the same staffing ratios.

CCSD had 850 vacancies, however,

To match Philadelphia's ratio of a licensed staff for every 11.9 students, CCSD would need to hire 6,821 licensed staff!

If so many quit in Philly that they were at CCSD’s ratios, then Philadelphia would have a 27% vacancy rate

Don’t let people tell you what is happening in CCSD is happening nationally

CCSD currently has:

- 522 less licensed staff than Mar 2020
- 190 less licensed staff than Sep. 2021

If staff continue to leave at the current rate,

What is happening in CCSD is a colossal failure of leadership!

There is a reason the Governor said families deserve better than Superintendent Jesus Jara.

There is a reason the Henderson City Council is extremely frustrated that they cannot get any response to their needs from CCSD leadership.

There is a reason that the City of North Las Vegas Mayor, John Lee, is angry with CCSD leadership and does not believe they are following state law.

You don’t have to agree on a solution with all these people… they don’t agree with each other.

But you have to willingly keep your head in the sand to not agree with the reason for the problem…

There is a colossal failure of leadership in the Clark County School District

People excusing the failed leadership of CCSD are hurting our children.

Thousands of students in CCSD do not have a full-time experienced teacher.

Our children need effective leadership NOW

Time is up. Hiring has started for the next school year.

CCSD’s failures are a massive NEVADA problem.

With a shrinking teacher pipeline, as CCSD burns through more staff it becomes harder for EVERYONE in #NVEd to find qualified teacher candidates.

This is a call to action to ensure every child starts next year with a licensed teacher

The public needs to know:

- Where are we at right now?
- What is CCSD doing to turn things around?
- What do success AND failure look like?

We don't want promises.
We want results!

The repercussions of this will be felt by our children for years to come if we don’t act.
