We have been looking at electoral data fm POV of citizen engagement, voter awareness, migration, demographic changes & women empowerment. We hope that this thread helps you to get a data driven picture of key trends & patterns in #Uttarakhand

2. The average voting turnout in #Uttarakhand in 2017 Vidhan Sabha election was 65.6%. Elections were held on Feb 15, 2017 in 70 seats of which 36 are in 4 plain districts of #Haridwar, #Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar and #Nainital. The remaining 34 seats are in 9 hill districts.

3. The highest polling percentage in the 2017 election was in the districts of Udham Singh Nagar (76.01%), #Haridwar (75.68%) and #Uttarkashi (69.38%).

The lowest polling percentage was in the hill districts of #Almora (53.07%), #Pauri (54.86%) and #Tehri (55.68%).

4. Laksar (81.95%), Haridwar Rural (81.76%) and Piran Kaliyar (81.6%) in the plain district of #Haridwar were three constituencies with the highest voting turnout in #Uttarakhand in 2017 elections. Thus, voter turnout was in 81-82% range in the three constituencies.

5. Salt (46.01%) in #Almora district & Chaubatakhal (46.91%) + Lansdowne (47.87%) in #Pauri district had lowest voter turnout. With 49.19% voting turnout, Ghansali in #Tehri district also had voting % below 50%. Thus, there were 4 hill constituencies with voter turnout below 50%.

6. 82% hill constituencies (28 out of 34) in 9 hill districts had vote share lower than of state average of 65.6%. In most hill constituencies, avg voters is in 45K-60K range. The total electors are quite low in hill constituencies & on top of that, the vote share is very low.

7. Let's now look at how women & men voted in #Uttarakhand in the 2017 elections. While no. of men electors is more than women electors (electors are those whose names appear on voting list), far many more women voted compared to men. This is mainly & mostly due to #migration.

8. Men electors were greater than women electors in 28 of 34 hill constituencies in 2017. It was only in 6 constituencies viz. Kedarnath, Chaubatakhal, Pauri, Didihat, Dharchula & Dwarahat that women electors outnumber men. Electors are those whose names appear in voting list.

9. There were a total of 15,34,661 men electors of which 7,84,939 cast their votes with a voting percentage of 51.15% in 34 constituencies in 9 hill districts in #Uttarakhand. Thus, on an average half the men electors in the hill districts did not vote in the 2017 elections.

10. There were 1472513 women electors of which 958865 cast votes with 65.12% voting in 9 hill dists. On avg, 2/3 women cast votes in hill dists. On 33/34 hill seats, more women voted than men. Only in Purola in Uttarkashi dist, there were 583 more men voters against women voters.

11. There were avg 28,202 women voters & avg 23086 men voters in each hill assembly. 5,116 more women than men voted on avg in each of 34 seats. Biggest difference amongst women & men voters is in seats of #Bageshwar (9,802 votes), #Rudraprayag (9,517) & #Dwarahat (9043).

12. Apart from above 33 hill seats, there are 4 more seats in plain dists where women voters outnumbered men voters. These are #Doiwala, #Rishikesh, #Kaladhungi & #Khatima. Thus; of the 70 seats in Uttarakhand, women voted in larger numbers than men on 37 seats in 2017 elections.

13. Let's now look at demographic changes in last 10 years between 3rd assembly election in 2012 to 5th assembly election in 2022 in #Uttarakhand. The changes are massive & need to be researched further to evaluate the economic, env, political, social, cultural, other impacts.

14. There has been an unprecedented 30% increase in voter nos. in Uttarakhand during 10 years. Total voters for 2022 election is 8266644. There were 6377330 voters in 2012. There is increase of 1889314 (19 Lakhs, rounded off) voters in 10 years between 2012 to 2022 elections.

15. Largest increase of 37% voters in 36 seats in plain dists of US Nagar, Dehradun, Nainital & Haridwar in 10 years. Highest increase in US Nagar dist w/ 43%. In comparison, there is 20% voter increase in 34 seat in 9 hill dists in 10 years. Lowest increase of 13% in Almora dist

16. Dharampur in #Dehradun dist is biggest seat with 207718 voters. It had the max. 72% increase in voter nos. in 10 years. Lowest increase in voters in Salt seat in #Almora dist with 8% increase in 10 years. Purola in #Uttarkashi dist has least voters ie 74551 in 2022 elections.

17. 61% voters are in 36 seat in 4 plain dists whereas 39% voters are in 34 seat in 9 hill dists. Avg 118095 voter in each of 70 seats. While plain seats have avg 139191 voters, hill seats have avg 95,758 voters. On avg, there are 43433 more voters in plain compared to hill seats
