One Piece Theory

The One Piece & The Country of Gold

#ONEPIECE #Theory

This theory stems from the revelations in 1040's official Viz translations. Big Mom stated that she believes that part of the One Piece is in Wano.

I think it's fair to say that this was everyone's first reaction lol

'Some' of the 'One Piece'? How does that make any sense?

This raises some very interesting points that I will discuss and break down in this thread.

First of all, let's go back to the beginning. Roger's words during his execution.

In the official translation he says this (left) but in fan translations he said this (right)

In one case, the treasure is referred to as, 'it'. But in the other, it is implied that there're pieces

This same implication is echoed in the different translations of Big Mom's quote

Interestingly, although the official translations of course give the proper meaning, the fan translations might make it easier to understand the implication.

In the case of Big Mom's quote, I would suggest that the two translations boil down to meaning the same thing. "Some of it" (The One Piece) &, "Some of the answers" (To what & where the One Piece is)

Some of the answers are in Wano.

In this case, it would mean that what Big Mom is suggesting, is not that there is a physical fragment of the One Piece hidden in Wano, but that there is a metaphorical fragment of it hidden in Wano.

This fragment is perhaps simply information that will reveal something about it

What could Wano have hidden away that would equate to a revelation on the mysteries of the One Piece itself?

To understand that, I think we have to look back at the history.

Wano was earlier revealed to have once been known as, 'The Country of Gold', during the era of, Ryuma.

Many will know already that i've theorised that this line is one of many that suggest that Wano is the missing eye of, Jaya.

You can check out that theory in full here -

However, there's only one key part that has to be addressed before this concept can be understood.

This line from Robin reading Skypiea's Poneglyph.

This line may not seem to suggest much at first but now we know that the, 'recorders of history', were none other than the Kozuki.

In addition to that, 'Wa no kuni', directly translates to -

"The country of Harmony."

But if this is the case, how did Wano get moved from Jaya? That brings us to the subject of, Oars.

For the full theory on that part of the mystery, check out this thread -

Essentially, this part of the theory boils down to the suggestion that, Onigashima's real name is, Oars I.

It was Oars who moved Wano from Jaya, following the Battle of Shandora.

This connects to some dialogue from, Whitebeard.

The most interesting possible implication of this theory, is the potential reason why Wano was moved from Jaya.

Shandora was destroyed for protecting the Poneglyphs & all of it's books were burned. It's entire history was lost.

This connects us to Clovers speech on the subject

Wano was moved from Jaya to prevent it from suffering the same fate as, Shandora; & to protect their treasured history from the same kind of destruction.

This was one of the previous, 'Great Cleansings'

This potentially provides an explanation for the meaning behind Big Mom's words.

Whatever the One Piece may be, it is tied centrally to these events, 800 years ago, at the end of the Void Century.

Perhaps this is the history that they were protecting.

Perhaps the answer to Big Mom's suggestion that part of the One Piece is in Wano, can be explained through this history & identifying what the people of Wano were trying to protect

Wano may hold one of the most essential pieces of information

The name of the Ancient Kingdom!

But how is it that we could get all of this information and all of these different plot points tied together? There are so many threads to tie together to give the complete picture.

This lead me to a very interesting possibility. Perhaps we will get another flashback

It would make a whole lot of sense if these revelations came through a flashback that parellels Oden's journey. Many already theorise that Yamato's journey will parallel Oden's, but what about the possible parallels of past figures?

We may get this through the eyes of, Ryuma!

In one flashback, Oda would be able to give new context and depth to Oden's journey, explain the truth of Wano's history; & give the explanation to Zoro's Shimotsuki lineage

Ryuma and the Country of Gold.

A flashback to Jaya before the destruction of Shandora & moving of Wano!
