Section 40 in The Wakf Act, 1995
The Board may itself collect info regarding any property which it has reason to believe to be wakf property!
This basically says, A board made up of Muslims can acquire ANY PROPERTY IF IT BELIEVES/FEELS LIKE ACQUIRING IT!

And if any question arises whether a particular property is wakf property or not or whether a wakf is a Sunni wakf or a Shia wakf it may, after making such inquiry as it may deem fit, decide the question.

Waqf Board's Corruption & Land Encroachment

It has around 4 lakh registered properties & around 6 lakh acres of land.

The Waqf Board has been accused of acquiring lands and public spaces by making them Waqfs.
If someone creates a Mazar or a Mosque somewhere and it becomes a place for religious worship, then Waqf Board can declare that property as a waqf property.
