Is Twitter The New ID Textbook?
Bugs, Drugs, and Social Media – Twitter as a Tool for Advancing the Field of Infectious Diseases
My #ECCMID2022 slides as a 🧵 1/n
Many ingredients in the kitchen of social media can be combined to create different products which supports advancing ID through SM.
Each activity can support one or multiple domains of 🧠 Blooms Taxonomy.
Get creative with your recipes to create new fun stuff! 2/n
One of the best accounts out there on SM @DGlaucomflecken - huge reach in short period, recent ASP skit in vertical video, very entertaining & original, uses several SM platforms.
REMEMBERING domain: ⚠️ beware inappropriate meropenem prescribing.

Twitter is an important book in the 2022 library of learning. 📚 Other SM platforms also have their place.
Hashtags are like chapters in the Twitter for ID textbook… Volume 2 is still being written, 🤓 excited to see what comes next for #SOTL in ID on SM

🤔 Reflections from presenting…
▪️ SM is complicated, impossible to set stage and relay my evaluation of items in just a few minutes
▪️Masks make it hard to read the audience, see reactions. Unfortunate for people like me who feed off of facial expressions to find a flow.
🤔 Reflections from making my first 🧵
▪️Not sure I did this right 😂
▪️Hard to put complex things into concise tweets, 📸 visuals are helpful
▪️Emojis also help relay info 📖🤓
▪️ Do follow up tweets like this without a /n count as part of the thread 🤷♂️ 🙃
🤔 Reflections from the #ECCMID2022 social media talks…
▪️ Scicomm training opportunities are needed now for academics, scientists, HCPs
▪️We need to have a voice if we hope to help steer the ship/fleet
▪️A rising tide raises all boats
▪️Proceed to SM with caution
