Let us do a #WaybackWednesday for this week. The Roger Adams Collection at the #UCSF #IndustryDocuments library.

That collection is where this was found.
Big Sugar 💝 Big Dentistry.
#SealantsAndFluoride. You know, #SugarScience. npr.org/sections/healt…

The first meeting of the "Scientific Advisory Board".

Eleven years later.

It was not the elimination of sugar from our diet. -|- "What are the prospects for its eradication of control?"

In 1969 tooth decay rates were decreasing. Because of #PreventiveDentists teaching their patients how not to need their dental repair service. But, these guys were following what organized big #Dentistry was saying at the time. We don't have a clue.

So, instead of admitting that sucrose was causing tooth decay, & teaching that; and instead of the practice of #PreventiveDentistry growing quick, Big #Dentistry & Big Sugar doubled down & decided on our old friend, #TheGasOfLucifer to prevent tooth decay. #SugarScienceMarchesOn.

"Clearly, a major effort is needed to #fluoridate more communal water supplies and, by alternate means, to get #fluoride to the large fraction of persons not accessible at present."

Yeah, what about that?

"#Caries that develop despite #fluoride occur principally in pits and fissures on the occlusal, or biting, surfaces of #teeth. #Prevention by sealing these surfaces with a durable adhesive material has been shown to be feasible, though not yet fully practicable."

"Current investigations promise to develop more serviceable materials."

"Some dental researchers feel that a vigorous program to develop rational use of antibiotics or other antimicrobial agents in oral hygiene is overdue. Much evidence indicates that even partial or selective reduction of plaque-forming oral bacteria would go far to diminish caries"

Missed it by THAT much. 🤌🏽 -|- "Much evidence indicates that even partial or selective reduction of plaque-forming oral bacteria would go far to diminish caries."

So, you guys can continue to fill teeth, and we can continue to sell sugar, deal?

#SealantsAndFluoride to prevent tooth decay is #SugarScience. American #Dentistry has been recommending those two nostrums for preventing tooth decay for over fifty years.
🦷
#HeckuvaJobDoctor.
😑

There is a better way.

PITY THERE IS NO '*ACCESS*'.
Expenditures in America for #Dental services has increased half again since 1996.

Did they just tell a flat out fib? The numbers say dental disease is getting worse, according to how much is spent annually. Or, $274,000,000, per day. -|-
“For nearly 75 years, communities have added #fluoride to water, leading to a decline in tooth decay.”

Besides, Dr Bass' information went around the World and back before Grand Rapids thought about adding bioavailable #fluorine to their citizens diet.
"Prevention Of The Loss Of Teeth"; published in 1943.
👨🏽‍🔬
Grand Rapids polluted their water, intentionally, in 1945.

Big #Dentistry & #CDC still say that #fluoridation is a Top 🔟public health achievement of the 20th Century.

Big #Dentistry cannot, & therefore, will not, admit the facts. Tooth decay decreased all over the World since 1943, and only a handful of countries add #fluorine to H2O.

A good read. Recommend. books.google.com/books/about/Dr…

"Untreated tooth decay"
or
"Unprevented tooth decay"

Both are good for the business of #Dentistry.
Both are bad for the patients oral health.
Choose, and live with your choice.
#DollarsOrDentistry?
#SilverOrScience?
#GoldOrGlory?

If one chooses the former, and not the latter, of those choices, no harm no foul. Business is business. Gotta earn a living, pay for the River House. But, remember
