Learning how to learn - How to learn faster and retain more.
As a software dev, you have to keep up with lots of information and in this post, I am going to share a few tips on how to learn faster and also how to retain the knowledge you built. Follow the 🧵

Beliefs - Your beliefs can play along with or against you. Believing you are capable of learning, having a positive mindset towards your studies, and not having a bad mental monologue when you are studying something will help you tremendously. #mindsetmatters
Recalling - One of the biggest errors when learning is thinking that reading is equal to studying. The more you read, the better reader you become. When it comes to using your knowledge you will need to recall to be able to use it.
Tip number #1 - Remind what you just read/learned after every page, chapter, or a section. Recalling will help to make your neuron paths thicker and less likely to forget. Take notes along the way as it will be useful to test yourself and review later
Spaced repetition - Spaced repetition is the best tool to make what you learned permanent. Studying something for 4 hours straight is less effective than studying 1-hour sections on 4 different days.
Spaced repetition 2 - The best time to recall something is when you are about to forget. Increase the gap if getting easier to recall the topic and/or answers, and also decrease it if it's difficult.
Spaced repetition 3 - Schedule reviews for things you study and want to keep in your mind forever. Reviews make you recall content at a different time. And again, try to recall your reviews and then check your answers and things you don't remember.
Tip number #2 - Use Anki or Quizlet for space repetition and flash cards. (I personally use Anki). FYI: This is a very common practice between language learns
Use your muscles! -
* Writing makes you less likely to forget than typing
* People who practice physical activities learn better
* Walking is extremely helpful for making what you learned to settle in your mind.
Sleep - When sleeping you are making the things you learned throughout the day into your permanent memory. You are basically taking the bits and bytes from your RAM to your hard drive. Make it a priority.
Sleep 2 -
* Adequate sleep will improve your attention when studying and working.
* Sleep is essential in many different ways towards an overall better life and learning that is hard to describe.
Teaching to learn -
* Learn in public
* Teaching helps you see the content with different eyes, create analogies and you simplify the concepts in your mind
All of those things make your knowledge stick as you add more neuron connections to those things.
These are just brief ideas and knowledge I learn in my journey. If you are interested in the subject share your own tips!
