WHAT IS A SNARK?
SNARKs, or Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge, enable a PROVER to convince a VERIFIER that the prover knows something (we’ll revisit these terms ‘prover’ and ‘verifier.’

ZK-PROOFS ARE NOT NEW 💡
They were started in 1985 by TURING AWARD winners Shafi Goldasser and @silviomicali (the latter being the founder of @Algorand), and Charles Rackoff (pictured below).
Zero-Knowledge proofs won the Gödel Prize in 1993.

ZK PROOFs are GREAT FOR PRIVACY 🤫
They can prove validity without revealing context. Imagine:
🎂 proving a person’s age without knowing what their birthday is
🏡 proving that a person lives in a specific town without seeing their address

One of my favorite ZK PROOF analogies is in this @MinaProtocol video👇
They use the childhood game Where’s Waldo 🔍
a PROVER demonstrates to a VERIFIER that they know where Waldo is, but without revealing other context clues.

ANALOGY 2️⃣
#Etherum is the Schuylkill Expressway at rush hour, CONGESTED bumper-to-bumper.
Imagine if a carpool lane opened for 🚗 with more than 1 passenger.
More people would be able to go in and out of the city, and the overall # of 🚗 would decrease.

In the film, people are zapped into mini versions of themselves with a shrink ray (ZK-PROOFS are the ray).
