Heavy rainfall, associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Songda, has moved across northern Japan from July 31.
As a result of heavy rains, ICEYE has observed flooding in Hokkaido and Northern Honshu.

2/ Our team continues to take new satellite images and monitor the #flood, as these rains in Japan continue. Yamagata Prefecture and Niigata appear to be the most affected areas so far.
Current data indicates that hundreds of buildings have been impacted.
3/ Initial flood extent and depth analysis is aimed for customer delivery within 24 hours 💧
4/ The floods in Central and Northern Japan have been widespread, with water depths rising up to 1 meter.
Some of the most impacted areas in Central Japan include Tainai / Murakami Niigata, Sagae, Yonezawa, and in the North, Hirosaki, Ichinohe, Kuji, and Hachinohe.
5/ In this synthetic-aperture radar (#SAR) satellite image from ICEYE, #flooding can be seen extending from the Mogami river to the nearby agricultural areas in Kawanishi, Yamagata Prefecture, Central Japan, on August 3.
6/ This before and after animation shows the #flood extent and depth along the Mogami river, Yamagata Prefecture, during the peak of the flooding.
