What are the rules for Brahmins in acient times?

Also, duties of a Brahmin.

Must rise at 4 am everyday and never sleep during the day.

Must bathe twice every day and perform Sandhya-vandana three times.

Offer tarpana (water libations) to ancestors and rishis daily and special sessions on the new and the full-moon.

Daily study and memorizing of a portion of the Veda to which he belongs.

To teach some portion to others.

After marriage - perform agnihotra (fire oblations) twice daily

To strive towards complete performance of 40 samskāras incumbent upon Brahmins during the lifetime.

After Sandhya, Tarpana and Veda study he has to perform the daily puja to his deities.

Must have his ears pierced and wear earrings

Not using public transport

Bathing after walking on highway

Strict rules about eating.

Before eating, food has to be offered to house deities.

Feed a stranger everyday

cooked food or taking water from any source outside the house

in front of other people

in utensils used by others

mushrooms, onions, garlic or leeks

food cooked for an assembly of people – such as a wedding feast or house party.

No eating of food in a ship or boat but must be on land.

Not drinking any beverage containing alcohol and not even smelling alcohol

No tobacco or drug usage other than for health reasons.

or food offered by an artisan
