Whenever there are floods, a faction of propagandists start propagating that #Dams are the only solution for #FloodsInPakista.
I don't possess expertise in civil engineering, but to some certainty I know dams can't mitigate #floods. Dams can only store naturally flowing waters.
Floodwaters can neither be stored in dams nor stopped. Stopping floodwaters is dangerous and multiplicate the destruction. Even, there are numerous instances when poorly built #dams collapsed due to floodwaters.
#Pakistan has the largest number of #glaciers in the world.
#FloodsInPakistan are due to #GlobalWarming coupled with poorly built infrastructure and urban planning.
US and the Brazil have a great number of dams but they face floods too. The only difference is that they have excellently built infrastructure & urban planning coupled with well planned #DisasterManagement.
#Japan faces most #earthquakes in the world but the infrastructure & planning doesn't let them fall.
Dams are not the solution for #FloodsInPakistan. Just look around, rain for an hour left the streets of our cities flooded with water for days. Do we need dams for rain too? No! We need better disaster management, urban planning, flood control channels & #EnvironmentalPolicy.
