It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry into the #BatmanvSuperman references the DC lore series. Today, it’s time for the biggest gladiator match in the history of the world. The Batman v Superman scene in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood

This one is going to be a two-parter. There are so many people that have analyzed homages in this battle that in Part 1 (today) I wanted to share some references that I really like (from others) and add a few myself.

Part 2 (next week) will focus on the most relevant part of the scene, when Batman snaps out of his PTSD by Superman’s words about Martha. There is an interesting connection to a DC comic there that deserves its own deep dive. But I won’t say more since, well spoilers 😂.

So, let’s start this Part 1. And I have to say that this video I found makes a very good job displaying so many homages in this scene. It is really good, you can check it out! I will try from here onwards to add material that is not there in this video vimeo.com/351460231

For instance, Batman’s view of Superman at the start of the battle resembles their encounter also in Man of Steel: Luthor, Superman/Batman #78 and Batman: Hush.

Having the similarity with Superman/Batman #78 is an interesting one because it also displays Batman trying to hurt Superman with a Kryptonite spear as in #BvS

Justice League #2 from the New 52 also have Batman and Superman fighting against each other with Batman using a sonic disrupter and smoke as a distracting tool close to #BvS.

In the same issue, Superman grabs Batman and throws it to a wall. In #BatmanvSuperman we have the reverse of that one with Batman grabbing Superman and sticking him into a wall.

Changing comics, there is a homage I really love to Injustice Gods Among Us Year Five #25 when both Batman and Superman are about to clash against each other.

This one is interesting because in the same issue we see other similarities to #BvS. First, a small one a rat in the place of the battle 🤣🤣

Interestingly we see Superman pushing Batman (in the rain) aside like it’s nothing with his hand. And even Batman moving Superman after he’s defeated in a way that is very close to #BatmanvSuperman

The Injustice storyline is homaged plenty throughout the #BvS battle. Some of these references have been highlighted by @zack_know (an account I love). For instance, this one from Injustice comics.

Or this one from the same storyline of Superman pushing Batman aside.

And this one too telling him to stand down.

@zack_know also highlighted a reference to The New Frontier, with Batman trying to argue about Superman not having a mother and being and alien in the middle of their fight.

@sreetwin has highlighted a #ZackSnyderistheBlueprint moment with The Devastator (2017) with both a Kryptonite spear (that even looks the same as in #BvS) and Kryptonite gas

@raveryn has pointed out several instances where Superman v The Elite looks similar to what happens when Batman is fighting Superman in #BvS

Close to the end of the battle, Batman’s cowl is teared down in the movie and this one looks similar to a teared cowl in Batman #57, which I thought was interesting.

And to close out the thread, in Superman #211 (from the Superman: For Tomorrow storyline) Wonder Woman fights Superman and cuts him, just like Batman cuts him with the Kryptonite spear. The other two trinity members hurting the Man of Steel in a similar way!

And that's it for today. Next week a long deep dive into a storyline in DC comics that resembles a lot the Martha moment that closes this battle. So excited for that one! #BatmanvSuperman #RestoreTheSnyderVerse

Adding two more references to this thread. First one courtesy of @MichaelSacal from Superman Annual #3 in 1991. In it they also call Superman a judge, jury, and executioner (an opposite parallel to what Batman is called in #BvS).

Second one is thanks to @edgarnica1987 pointing out to Superman: Red Son which has also similarities, especially Batman using (Red) Kryptonite to devoid Superman of powers and Supes getting surprised by it.

There is also similar imagery when Superman flies to confront Batman, and towards the end of the fight with Batman dragging Superman through the floor. Overall nice couple of additions that probably influenced some of the imagery in this battle in #BatmanvSuperman

One more reference for the battle scene this one just beautiful!
