Solomon Wayne reference https://twitter.com/clarkjoedceu/status/1563592416489533442
Part 1 was all about different DC references out there. And today it’s all going to be about the references (and differences) from the Funeral for a Friend storyline. So much to dissect so this one (my last one) is going to be a long one 😅, so let's get to it!
This scene has many references. Several of them to the storyline in Funeral for a Friend. And then several others to different pieces of DC media/comics. So today, I’ll cover these latter types of references and next week I’ll close out with the Funeral for a Friend ones.
This scene (and the next ones, ups spoilers) homage several parts of the continuation to The Death of Superman storyline in comics which was called Funeral for a Friend, an 8 issue storyline across different comics.
Not surprisingly, there are homages to the The Death of Superman storyline and specifically to Superman #75 which is the final comic in this run. And what a better time to do this thread as we get closer to celebrating the 30th anniversary of this classical moment in comics!
Several classical homages here to comics. Let’s start from one that was part of last week’s thread with Superman lying in space at the beginning of the scene and how it looks like Injustice: Gods Among Us #33.
So let’s start where we finish off last week because the homages to The Dark Knight Returns (TDKR) #4 continue. First, we have the bomb going off homage in #BvS. https://twitter.com/ClarkJoeDCEU/status/1574415632061419520?s=20&t=l6T0iPuDRBuHxJkM86YZPw

Just a small scene with a couple of references but one that I really like. First, we have Superman pushing Doomsday outside Earth. This is a homage to the Death of Superman storyline (specifically from the comic Superman: The Man of Steel #19).

Several references and especially many homages to The Death of Superman (DoS) storyline. But let’s start at the beginning. First, as highlighted by @raveryn there are similarities in this scene between Lex and Lex Luthor from Superman for All Seasons https://twitter.com/raveryn/status/1554467698347851779?s=20&t=DiTDJNUS_RIaSCfyGpDXLQ
It’s a quick one today. First, we get Batman jumping through a window in classical style. Just a classical comic look. For comparison, I like how it compares to this entrance from Batman in Superman/Batman #53. https://twitter.com/ClarkJoeDCEU/status/1567548552934526981?s=20&t=g16eSiyHAbFyo4bZYVN1Ng
https://twitter.com/ClarkJoeDCEU/status/1566877844197806081?s=20&t=ZM4bVOateOsUAUNC3_5cQgFirst, Bruce and Clark meeting at a gala just like in #BatmanvSuperman

Today it’s all going to be about the moment where Batman is about to be snapped out of his PTSD by Superman’s words about his mother, Martha. I wrote about this moment at length here if you want to check it out clarkjoedceu.wixsite.com/into-the-snyde…
This one is going to be a two-parter. There are so many people that have analyzed homages in this battle that in Part 1 (today) I wanted to share some references that I really like (from others) and add a few myself.
Right off the bat we have Diana Prince folding some clothes and in her bed we see Action Comics #1 (Superman’s first appearance), Detective Comics #27 (Batman’s first appearance) and #31, and Sensation Comics #1 (Wonder Woman first cover appearance).

Only reference that I have seen mentioned around is regarding Superman talking to Lois, losing faith about humanity momentarily.

This scene is so special for me. It’s probably my favorite one in the movie, but also, it’s where I get the inspiration for my twitter nickname. I am so happy to be able to unpack different connections to the DC world. So, here we go. Beware (very) long thread incoming!
It’s a short one today with two references to the last issue of Superman: Birthright (#12). First, the dialogue between Lex and Lois resembles that of the comic. Her trying to show she will expose him, and him shrugging it off.

Semi-short thread today about this. First, we start off with the Ralli’s diner, now with even a sign for it. This is a reference we see the inside of the location during the Capitol Montage scene https://twitter.com/ClarkJoeDCEU/status/1516031459718483969?s=20&t=fOJjH4FiWlCAUcM3akkLlQ
Broadly speaking this scene relates to the episode “I am the Night” from Batman: The Animated Series and also comic storyline Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne.
In this scene, Clark visits a mountain where he talks with his father’s ghost about what he’s going through. Importantly, to dissect this scene a good starting point is thinking about Zack Snyder’s words about it (thanks to @hell0gary for the edit of the image).
Thought this one was going to be a short 🧵 with a couple of references. But as usual I went on a rabbit hole following one part of the scene and wanted to share some of it here. So, let's start with a reference, the protests that again look like Grant Morrison’s Action Comics #3
