If Hindus believe in reincarnation of fixed earthly souls, how can they explain the human population explosion in the last 100 years?

To understand the Hindu world view you need to learn something about science & cosmology. The Cosmos in which we live consists of 100 billion galaxies. There is a metaphor of Vishnu lying upon the cosmic ocean & from each of his pores galaxies constantly emerge.

Cosmologists estimate that there are over a million planets like earth in this vast Universe within the same distance from their Sun with all the requirements and conditions for life.

Why do you think that earth is the center of the Universe and there is only a finite number of jīvas that incarnate?

Hinduism also teaches that there are parallel universes and there are as many jīvas as there are hydrogen atoms in the Universe.

Carl Sagan on Hindu Cosmology from his Magnum Opus COSMOS

The Hindu religion is the only one of the world’s great faiths dedicated to the idea that the Cosmos itself undergoes an immense, indeed an infinite, number of deaths and rebirths.

Its the only religion in which time scales correspond to those of modern scientific cosmology, cycles run from ordinary day & night to a day & night of Brahma, 8.64 bn yrs, more than age of Earth & Sun, about half the time since Big Bang. There are much longer time scales still.

There is an appealing notion that the universe is but the dream of god who, after a 100 Brahma yrs, dissolves into a dreamless sleep. The universe dissolves with him - until, after another Brahma century, he stirs, awakens himself & begins again to dream the great cosmic dream.

Meanwhile, elsewhere, there are an infinite number of other universes, each with its own god dreaming the cosmic dream. These great ideas are tempered by another, perhaps still greater. Its said that men may not be dreams of gods, but rather that the gods are the dreams of men.
