The Future Roles of Eustass Captain Kid
Future Role 1: The Man Marked by Flames
This is the only future role for Kid that we can be sure about going forward.
At the end of Wano, Kid & Killer mentioned that in order to be able to progress further they would have to track down a mysterious character known as -
'The Man Marked by Flames.'
There are multiple potential characters that could turn out to be the true identity of this 'Man Marked by Flames'.
However, we won't go in to them all here. That is it's own thread that I'll link at the end of this one.
Personally, I believe that the true identity is Vegapunk
My original reasoning for this was that Vegapunk was caught in the explosion of his Punk Hazard lab that was caused by Ceaser.
Now I also believe that the fact Vegapunk created 6 clones of himself to work for him also supports this idea if he was badly wounded in the explosion
So I believe that Kid & Killer will almost certainly end up meeting Vegapunk. It may not be in this arc, although I think it will be, toward the end.
Many people have also pointed out that the Smiles still aren't cured & Kid & Killer's cyber-punk aesthetic is shared by Vegapunk.
I believe that where ever Kid has gone since Wano, he will end up at Egghead Island anyway. The idea of Luffy & Kid ending up in the same place was also planted at the end of Wano.
If the WG are trying to kill Vegapunk, then Kid may play a role in preventing that from happening.
Future Role 2: Vs 'The Fraud Emperor' Captain Buggy
At the end of Wano, Kid also acknowledged Luffy as a Yonko but said that the one he could not accept as having the status was Buggy.
I think this suggest that Kid intends to target Buggy next & take him out, so that he can get the Yonko status he believes that he deserves.
It is even possible that this is where Kid will have ended up going next, Buggy's territory, Empty Bluff Island.
This could be the event that leads him to Egghead, as if he is going to try & fight Buggy, then he is also going to end up encountering Crocodile & Mihawk.
Whilst Law is fighting Blackbeard, it could be that Kid ends up in a fight with Mihawk. This would be an interesting encounter, since both have fought Shanks previously & it would measure Kid's improvement since he lost his arm.
I believe that this could actually end up happening & would make sense as an event that would lead Kid to a different place.
I think he will actually perform surprisingly well but Mihawk will be too much & an extra problem will arrive.
The Navy counter attack the Cross Guild.
Future Role 3: The Yonko War - Ragnarok
This potential future role for Kid will take us to Elbaf. I believe that Elbaf will be the location of a war involving all of the Yonko. Who at this point in time, will be -
Luffy, Blackbeard, Shanks & Kid.
(Kid defeated Buggy by then)
I believe that this event will be based on the mythology of the great battle of Ragnarok. A war to decide the final destiny of the Gods.
In theory, I believe that this event will lead in to the Battle of Mariejois. The Final War.
If this occurs, then it may be what leads to the popular community theory that Kid & Blackbeard will form an alliance against Luffy & Shanks.
Many believe that this is what will lead to Shanks' death & I think I agree.
Future Role 4: Are You So Terrified of God?!
I believe this will be Kid's final & most significant role in the story. The part he will play in the Battle of Mariejois & the takedown of the World Government.
Many have anticipated Kid having a significant role in Mariejois, ever since we learned of his hatred for the nobles.
Kid may play a major role in the events of Mariejois & I think this is supported by both, Kid's recent portrayal & the fact that Oda originally planned for Kid to have a leading role first, but it ended up being Law, because he was more popular.
Kid is one of 3 characters highlighted as the leaders of the new era & Oda made a point of focusing on him when speaking of the collapse of the status quo.
Not only that, Oda also had Kid with Luffy in perhaps the most significant scene in the finale of Wano.
Myself & others have pointed out before that the fireworks in this scene are shaped like Imu's eye & I believe this is intentional.
The fact that it was Luffy & Kid focused on in this scene makes me wonder if the 2nd wanted poster that Imu was holding in 906 was actually Kid's.
Based on all this, I believe that Kid will play a major role in the defeat of Imu & the World Government.
This creates the potential for a very interesting parallel to Noland & Calgara.
I believe that Kid will echo Noland's speech to Calgara when he confronts one of the Gorosei
Way back in Noland's flashback. We saw that he killed the great snake that the Shandorians thought was a God.
Calgara took great offence to this as 'God-slaying' & fought with Noland. Declaring -
'To turn ones back on God's word is to provoke divine judgement!'
In response, Noland shouted. -
'Are you terrified of God that much?!'
He goes on to explain that the Shandorian believe that they are cursed by God is misguided & that there is actually a cure to the plague they were suffering.
Many believe that Kid is actually a descendant of Calgara & I personally believe this to be true. It would explain the greater significance of Kid to the overall lore of the One Piece world.
This would be a great way to show how the impact of Noland's words stayed with Calgara's people for generations.
I believe Kid will echo these words when he confronts & possibly fights with the Gorosei.
This could be Kid's role in brining down the WG & the status quo of Imu.
As one last sort of footnote to conclude this thread. I believe that this confrontation with the Gorosei will be what finally leads to Kid's flashback.
Many will already know that I believe this will connect to the World Government's hunt for Roger's son
This would be a perfect way to finally fully reveal the significance of Kid's character to the story & for us to learn of his connection to the lineage of Calgara & the Shandorian ancestors of the Void Century
