1/n
Our ancestors celebrated festivals according to movement of celestial bodies.
~Tonight—KARTIK POORNIMA, celebrated as Guru Purab.
~#Poornima— Full moon; associated with water and emotions.
~#Guru— Jupiter; associated with Yellow colour/ Teacher/ #Vishnu LET ME EXPLAIN…
2/n It’s a Lunar eclipse—when MOON closest celestial body to Earth (which science has proven causes waves in sea) is eclipsed by Earth’s shadow. Hence Moon is associated with WATER. In Odisha they celebrate BOITA BANDANA/ a boat festival today, which is related to WATER.
3/n Our ancestors not just understood ASTRONOMY but they also knew how to interpret the impact of astronomical events. Most of our Hindu festivals have a connection to MOON be it DIWALI— which falls on a NEW MOON (Amavasya) or Guru Poornima ( which falls on a FULL MOON).
4/n Kartik Purnima is also popular day for bathing in Ganga at Varanasi. Again associated with WATER. But Kartik Poornima is not just associated with MOON but also JUPITER.
4/n GURU/ JUPITER— the largest planet of our Solar system, is considered the most benevolent planet, which can bless you with cornucopia of Knowledge and good luck. It is often associated with VISHNU & YELLOW. This is why Vishnu avatar KRISHNA is always shown in YELLOW.
5/n If you observe Krishna mentored Arjuna, pretty much acting as his GUIDE during the war of #Mahabharat. I am just explaining different aspects of JUPITER. 🙂 So whenever JUPITER is powerful in the sky we propitiate him.
6/n During this part of year JUPITER is at its best. Posted below 👇 are screenshots from SPACE.com and EARTHSKY.org. Both mention that JUPITER is easy to spot in the sky presently. (Space.com calls it SUPERIOR planet- a planet beyond Earth)
7/8 Jupiter is associated with VISHNU who is associated with MATERIAL WEALTH. Are we not taught that Lakshmi Devi is married to Vishnu❓ Knowledge leads to welath‼️ The concept is simple. 😊🙏
8/8 So what is special about #GuruPurab❓Knowledge, material wealth and emotions. Water- Moon is also associated with emotions. GIST— if one channelises their mental/emotional energy in the right direction tonight, they will PROSPER… or so it is believed. 😊🙏
Note: Hindus fast for Jupiter on Thursday, also called GURUVAAR. This is bcoz Jupiter has the most impact on us on this day. One is asked to wear gold and yellow on thursday.
I am assuming people know that Lunar eclipse occurs on a full moon. indiatoday.in/science/story/…
Forgot to add: It’s Guru Nanak Jayanti today. Once again it’s about a teacher/ a guide. 🙏 Also isnt the Golden temple called HariMandir? Hari— Vishnu‼️ Though it is commonly supposed to mean— house of God. 🙂
Guru Poornima, Buddha Poornima celebrated in summer are similar festivals. Wherever Guru is mentioned its about Jupiter, higher Knowledge and materialist wealth. Associated with sagacity. Buddh— is mercury and its about daily expressions and communication.
