I have never seen so many anti-homework people in my life. I understand there should be some constraints around it and special cases but walking into a college campus with no preparation for how to manage your time, study on your own, organize, reflect,...🧵

is a disaster waiting to happen. Some of these students are the ones I teach and they are so lost that it breaks my heart. They are running underwater while some of their classmates run circles around them. Starting out behind the eight ball. #PurposefulProfessor #NoireSTEMinist

I feel that the main people saying this have never seen the other end and will blame the school and the professor when their "No having homework in high school kid" is failing out after their freshman year. 🧵#PurposefulProfessor

How do you get better at music without practice? How do you get better at sports without practice? How do you get better study skills without practice? How do you learn to manage your time without practice? How to you learn to organize without practice? #PurposefulProfessor

I'm not saying every night, I'm not saying for hours on end. I'm not even saying all through high school but at some point you have to start to prepare for where you want to go. Sew seeds into the harvest you expect. #NoireSTEMinist #PurposefulProfessor

I am now stepping down off of my soap box and going to bed. Night all. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. #Homework #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter @OpenAcademics @AcademicChatter #HomeworkInHighSchool #CollegePreparation #NoireSTEMinist #MySTEMIsForTheStreets

I will also say that I was a college student with a subpar GPA who was told to drop out of college because of my grades with no consideration for my lack of financial aid or multiple jobs. This is why if you want a degree, I will help you get there but do your part. 🧵

Things I consider homework? Nothing about grades here.
- reading
- discussion
- watch a YT video
- math problems
- nature walk
- watch evening news
- tell parents what you learned today
- plan out your day
- go to a library
- go to a museum
- ask someone about job
- go to tutor

Someone asked if it is not graded, what if they don’t do it? You will never reach every student but just having the conversation and knowing it is valued will impact some of them and if even one is better prepared for college that is a win. 🧵

Assess what you expect, so ask how it went the next day. Ask what they made for dinner? What did they see on their nature walk? What did they read at bedtime? What video did they watch? Sometimes peers Influence behavior, those that didn’t do it may get inspired next time.

I have been manning this thread all day and have not been doing my #ProfessorHomework course prep for the three courses that start next Monday so I'm going to lead by example and dip out for a while to do some of my work. Hold it down y'all. Peace. #NoireSTEMinist

Of all the takes people have, no one is telling me what they do about music, sports, dance, drama? Isn't that practice increasing stress, adding on to their school day, taking away from family time, indoctrination? Making teacher feel better for no teaching? How Sway?
