The global economy is using energy 2% more efficiently than it did in 2021
That’s 4x better than the past 2 years - but only half the rate needed this decade to get on track for #NetZero
But there are signs that 2022 may be a turning point for #EnergyEfficiency progress
Global investments in efficiency grew significantly to $560 billion in 2022 - a 16% increase from last year
This was driven mainly by investment in EVs, up 47% from 2021
However, spending crucial to improving the efficiency of buildings has stalled. Much more is needed
Importantly, we show that people who spent on efficiency in the past are saving big today
Those who invested in more efficient homes & cars are spending much less on energy today
In the face of an affordability crisis, efficiency is the best way to get bills down
We are also seeing strong growth in efficient technologies
Heat pumps and electric vehicles – which use much less energy than their alternatives – are scaling up at record rates
This is letting consumers enjoy lower running costs and a smaller carbon footprint
So will 2022 be a turning point for energy efficiency?
