Here’s the presentation she’ll make tomorrow. The kicker is in this slide: The “conservative operating posture” of the @PUCTX & @ERCOT_ISO have cost consumers a minimum of $670m over only five months. (The range is $670-$845m)

The news here is the RUC costs, which market participants & consumer advocates have been sounding the alarm about for months. In my @REWorld article I said it was hard to tell exactly what RUCs cost, but now we know: $460m ytd thru 5/31/22. That’s more than I would've guessed. 3/

⚡️NEW REPORT⚡️:
Our new modelling report from @DavidSuzukiFDN shows that 100% zero-emissions electricity across Canada by 2035 is possible, reliable and affordable.

Buckle up for a #CleanElectricity thread 🧵

bit.ly/CleanElectrici…

#Climate #energytwitter #cdnpoli
This is the first modelling report of its kind in Canada. It goes beyond #NetZero to reach #ZeroEmissions by 2035, primarily by relying on:

☀️#Renewables like wind & solar
🔋#EnergyStorage
🏡#EnergyEfficiency
🌊Existing #Hydropower
🔌More grid connections between regions
Overall, Canada's electricity capacity grows by 2.8x by 2050, and the amount of electrical energy we use grows by 1.8x

All #FossilFuels on the grid are phased out by 2035, including all #NaturalGas. And no nuclear or fossils with #CCUS are needed.

It should surprise no one that the #ERCOT grid isn't fixed. There's a good chance there will be outages at some point over the next 3 days. Here's a look at what's going on.

A LOT of thermal power plants are out for maintenance (~16GW) & Friday, more broke: 6 gas plants = to ~3GW, roughly an Austin worth of power. I'll get into why power plants are breaking below.

As a #Disabled single parent on #UniversalCredit I desperately needed the #SpringStatement2022 to provide some sort of relief from the #CostOfLivingCrisis we're facing.

It doesn't...

If I use 15L of petrol/diesel in a week I can expect to be 75p a week better off?

It makes little impact when petrol is up ~50p a litre since the pandemic/Brexit.

75p cut, vs. a £7.50 increase? It's meaningless.

I need a lot more to get by than 75p a week!

2.
Then there's the doubling of the #HouseholdSupportFund - that's a discretionary. You have to plead with the council for it.

You have to set out why you, specifically, are failing to cope on benefits and deliver your full bank statement for scrutiny so they can criticise you.

UK PM @BorisJohnson will soon set out an energy security strategy. The biggest, quickest action 🇬🇧 can take to wean itself off Russian gas and expensive #FossilFuels is to invest in home #EnergyEfficiency and renewables. AN ENERGY SECURITY STARTS AT HOME TOP 10 FACTS THREAD 🧵
Fact 1/ Nearly 90% of the increase in bills over the last year is due to the rising price of gas, which has more than tripled over the same period. Most of the remaining increase is the cost of suppliers going bust. ofgem.gov.uk/energy-data-an…
Fact 2/ The UK has the oldest, most poorly insulated housing stock in western Europe, and over 85% of our homes are connected to the gas grid – leaving UK families sharply exposed to the volatility of international gas markets.

How successful has DLUHC @luhc been in matching domestic Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) to Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs)? #energyefficiency #opendata #proptech

● data epc.opendatacommunities.org
● info news.opendatacommunities.org/energy-perform… + ordnancesurvey.co.uk/newsroom/blog/…

🧵 1/9
DLUHC has recently released bulk data for EPCs lodged to the end of 2021. That dataset contains 22,243,396 EPCs.

UPRNs have been allocated to 20,551,337 records (92%).

Of those records, 8% of UPRNs were allocated by energy assessors and 92% by matching to OS AddressBase.

2/9
How many properties are there on the EPC register? Nobody knows.

EPCs are only required when a property is built, sold or rented, and are valid for ten years. A property may have multiple EPCs. There is no mechanism for updating the register when a property is demolished.

#EnergyEfficiency, the dependable middle child, gets little attention compared to the big brother (renewables) and little sister (clean tech). But it is a bang-for-your-buck solution that is easier to sell to everyone - it saves you money! 1/n
What is energy efficiency? Well, there's conservation (don't use as much! turn off the lights!) and there's efficiency (utility efficiency targets, appliance and vehicle standards, building codes, land use incentives, etc.). 2/n
4 areas of energy use that are targeted: Industry (making stuff), Transportation (moving stuff), Buildings (housing stuff). This is apart from Power Generation, of course - which is more of an outcome. 3/n

As #UkraineRussiaWar continues, and @IPCC_CH publishes it latest #Climate report, we take a closer look at the energy policy measures Europeans can take to weaken both Putin and climate disruption.
Take a look at the most efficient measures we have found so far 👇
#Thread
First, #EnergySufficiency measures (in plain English: stop wasting energy) are by far the best. Quick to implement. Efficient. Cost-effective. They should become a national security priority and give ideas for people to tangibly #StandWithUkraine in those dark days.
Second, #EnergyEfficiency targeting oil/gas heating buildings is a must. It however takes time to be rolled-out to significantly impact our dependence. All the more reason to start now!

Yesterday, w/ no media availability or even press release, ERCOT released its Capacity, Demand & Reserves (CDR) report. As has been a pattern lately, the communications with the public about issues of widespread conern is sorely lacking. #txlge 1/🧵

kvue.com/article/news/l…
Just this week, ERCOT CEO Brad Jones, in an article about political interference at ERCOT, said releasing a similar report (the Seasonal Assessment of Resource Adequacy, or SARA) in the same way was a "mistake." But nothing seems to have changed. 2/
texastribune.org/2021/12/28/tex…
The difference betw than the SARA & CDR is that the SARA looks at the upcoming season while the CDR looks several years out.

3 main takeaways:
(1) absent changes, these reports aren't useful
(2) climate change isn't considered
(3) renewables are increasing reliability

Texas' electric market is undergoing a redesign. The implications for everyone in ERCOT w/ an electric bill are huge. I'll translate the jargon in the PUC memo filed this week, summarize key points & describe market participants' reactions. 1/🧵 #txlege #energytwitter

The memo is from staff but is quite obviously reflective of Chairman Lake's position. The first thing in it is Operating Reserve Demand Curve (ORDC). This was created after the 2011 winter outages (and near misses that summer). It adds $ for generators in scarcity conditions.

Big day @PUCTX as two new concepts are introduced & discussed by Commissioners and stakeholders:

*Dispatchable Energy Credits from Cmsr McAdams
*Strategic Reserve Service from Cmsr Cobos

I'll tweet about it on this thread and put some key links below. #txlege #energytwitter
The dispatchable energy credits would come from a kind of Dispatchable Portfolio Standard akin to the Renewable Portfolio Standard and renewable energy credits. There are traded RECs for renewables, there could be traded credits for DECs soon.
interchange.puc.texas.gov/Documents/5237…
Cmsr Cobos proposal is to take a phased approach with a lot of quick actions to increase resilience and reliability while building toward a Strategic Reliability Service, mostly designed for winter, which is described here:

When we lose supply, we have turn to the load side to keep balance. We turn to large facilities that have given us the ability to turn down their usage. (he's talking about #demandresponse which we need more of!!!) Once that's exhausted we have to turn off residential customers.
