🆕🧵Here’s my thread on #Notts win over #Iron

A comfortable win for the Magpies. Not as much to analyse but it’s great to see a slight shift from the Yeovil game

Credit to Notts and Scunthorpe for the footage

The first goal comes from something I identified in my Yeovil post match thread; the long diagonal. It stretches a low block, creating space for the likes of Castro and Rodrigues as their defence can’t shift across. Having a player of Baldwin’s quality makes it possible

The finish is also superb - takes it first time and is so cool with it. Quevin is our best striker of the ball, but this is a different technique, and he executes it so well. He also does what we needed to do against Yeovil - shoot first time to catch them out

Another goal that starts from the back. I love the way we were building from the back with pace and purpose, not allowing them to set up. Also glad we identified that they were vulnerable down the flanks, and TAR is able to exploit that. Wonderful low drive from JOB

Here’s the finish again. It’s a great strike, catching it well, but I love Castro’s positioning here. The midfielders are dropping off their low block, allowing us to play. Only Langstaff was in the box, so it makes sure they are unmarked. Clever stuff

Again we get down the flanks, and it’s clearly something we identified. Tactically Scunthorpe just weren’t set up to deal with our wing backs. Their CM 2 were far too narrow, which meant they couldn’t shift across to provide support

The 3rd goal and I wanted to highlight Macca’s positioning. He kept to the left side of the box all afternoon, and Scunthorpe seemed to pick him up less than sides have recently. I’m guessing the idea was to drag the defence wide to open up shooting channels in front of goal

Clever quick passing and Ruben playing with flair. He ran the show on Saturday, and he is playing with so much confidence. The pace on the passing makes it harder for them to set up against. It’s a very effective way to beat a low block if you have the ability

Their goal and some negatives to highlight. Firstly, no player should be able to run as far as he has without being closed down or put under pressure. Brinds must take the majority of the blame for that. You’d also expect Sam to make a save at his near post

Our pressing puts them on the back foot. It forces them into a poor kick, and it sets the tone. Castro had an excellent game, and offered that something different. He has the ability to beat a man, and he shows it here. We’ve lacked that at times, a straight up 1v1 dribbler

JOB’s return was a very welcome and successful one. He add so much intensity to this side, and he turns over the ball so frequently. Here’s a lovely example of it, springing a press and winning the ball back with a well timed challenge. He has a big part to play this season
