A viral video was demoted 50% pending a 7-day fact checking period. That demotion continued by Facebook even though no “fact checking” actually occurred. Follow 🧵 for more coercive and collusive efforts by the @WhiteHouse to pressure @facebook to censor @TuckerCarlson!

On 4/14/21, the White House emailed Facebook to lament that a #TuckerCarlson video criticizing the #COVID vaccine was the most watched video on the platform. Facebook replied they would look into it.

Later, #Facebook informed the #WhiteHouse that Tucker Carlson’s video did not qualify for removal; but the video was labeled with a pointer to “authoritative” (White House approved) information, the video was not “recommended” to others, and it was demoted on Facebook.

Facebook promised their team was working hard to get data White House had requested, including most viewed and ranked content on platform. They also asked for “guidance” on what affirmative messages on vaccination FB should amplify, given the news of J&J vaccine blood clot report

The White House then demanded to know why the Tucker Carlson video did not violate Facebook policy and was not removed. A follow-up email by the White House condescendingly reiterates that their demand for answers was not rhetorical.

The White House concluded its demand with a thinly veiled threat to Facebook: “Not for nothing but the last time we did this dance, it ended in an insurrection.”

Facebook responded obediently that their team was “heads down” working to get the White House reports it had demanded and would respond to the questions later.

After a phone call between the two parties discussing the #Tucker Carlson video, Facebook dutifully reported by email to the White House that the video received 50% demotion pending a 7-day fact checking period.

Facebook continued to demote the Tucker Carlson video even though no fact checking actually occurred.
