As left wing terrorism in #Atlanta is in the news lately, highlighting this case from 2020.
Richard Hunsinger was set to be sentenced last week, but the sentencing is now contested and was pushed back.
We can confirm @NDGAnews is pursuing a terrorism sentencing enhancement
Hunsinger pled to federal charges relating to his role in attacking a federal building in a Portland #antifa inspired riot with molotovs and nail bombs.
The guideline range is 21-27 years. Feds are only asking for 7, Hunsinger is asking house arrest and probation.
Gov's argument focuses on
-That the conduct involved or intended to promote the federal crime of terrorism
-That it was clearly planned action, he was in black bloc and came w/ firebombs
-That it was targeting gov employees
-With his background, he "should have known better"
Hunsinger's argument focused on justifying the anger about Floyd, and explaining that despite coming in black bloc with firebombs, he was a "lawful protestor" who acted rashly and did not take time to "calculate"
Also argues that he had just 'interfered' and hadn't assaulted
Then Hunsinger jumps into a big list of J6 cases to explain why he should get house arrest. Jacob Chansley's case is included. Chansley is not accused of any violence/vandalism
There are some other funny details like Hunsinger trying to say he was in head to toe black bloc because of concerns over covid. Gov calls that preposterous, and that he was there to commit crime.
Sentencing is now set for 2/13/23. We'll be sure to update on the outcome.
