The Traitor Among Us

Ever since the defence system mysteriously went down in chapter 1071, it has become apparent that someone is betraying Vegapunk & the Straw Hats

But who could it be?

One possibility that many people have already raised is that this is the work of Caribou.

It's possible that Caribou is attempting to sabotage them in hope of benefitting for himself.

Personally, I don't believe that Caribou is the traitor, but he may be behind the disappearance of Vegapunk & the reason why Vegapunk isn't showing up on the monitors

#ONEPIECE1074

It is most likely that the traitor is one of the Vegapunk clones.

The reasons for this potential betrayal are unclear, but we have seen how the Satellite Clone clash with & disagree with each other.

Based on the plot point of Cipher Pol ships going missing, we are led to believe that the traitor is Lilith.

We learned at the beginning of the arc that Lilith likes to raid passing ships for money & resources.

She is most likely to be behind the disappearances of these ships

Lilith also represents the evil within Vegapunk's personality & this makes it seem likely that she would be the one to betray them.

If we take a closer look at this double page spread of the Straw Hats & the Vegapunks in the ruined control room, we can see that there are two characters missing.

Lilith & Pythagoras.

We learn on the next page that Pythagoras has already gone out in search of Vegapunk on his own, but where is Lilith?

She was with the group last chapter & it wasn't shown that she left the group.

It is likely that Lilith follows Pythagoras & it was her that he heard coming up behind him in the dark hallway.

We're led to believe that Pythagoras is now dead & that Lilith is the killer.

#ONEPIECE1074

However, I believe that this is a misdirection & that Lilith is not the traitor.

I believe that Pythagoras is the traitor & that we will later learn that it was actually Lilith who got blown up.

Perhaps she followed him because she suspected him.

We've also seen that despite her aggressiveness toward Shaka, Lilith cares about the other Vegapunk clones, especially Edison.

It seems unlikely that Lilith is the traitor, based on this behaviour and emotional reactions

Pythagoras on the other hand has shown no such emotion & has appeared to be behaving suspiciously in multiple panels.

This panel in #ONEPIECE1074 is particularly suspicious.

Pythagoras seems to be unconcerned about what has happened, almost as if he expected it.

This now leads me to the main reason that I am convinced that Pythagoras is the traitor.

The actual Pythagoras was rumoured to have murdered one of his pupils, Hippasos.

Hippasos is suggested to have surpassed the bounds of mortal knowledge & been condemned to death by the Gods

For reference. These stories and myths are recounted in texts such as -

.Iamblichos (Life of Pythagoras)
.Pappos citing Euclid's Tenth Book

These texts are not considered factual & are interpreted as a moral parable.

I believe that during his research for the creation of the Vegapunk clones, Oda may have come across this legend associated with Pythagoras & decided to use it as an inspiration

What if Pythagoras was actually a murderer?

#ONEPIECE1074

Why would Pythagoras do this?

Pythagoras represents the wisdom of Vegapunk. It could simply be that he feels that doing this is the wisest move for the ironic sake of self-preservation.

Based on Shaka's mysterious conversation with Dragon, it seems apparent that Vegapunk has an ulterior motive behind wanting the Straw Hats to save him.

It also seems to imply that Shaka was already somewhat aware they would be betrayed.

Vegapunk has shown an interest in experimenting in to infinite energy resources & the creation of artificial Logia fruits. Egghead is also full of light based traps.

This makes it seem like Vegapunk secretly intends to capture Kizaru and conduct these experiments on him.

The line of dialogue where Vegapunk admits that he has tried to create artificial Logias before connects back to this scene from Saboady.

It is most likely that this failed experiment involved copying Kizaru's fruit.

We've also seen that Vegapunk is a perfection is. He even considers the copy of Kaido's fruit that he made a failure only because it is pink instead of blue.

This makes it seem even more likely that he would want to complete his experiment on Kizaru.

If this is true then it means that Vegapunk is effectively using the Straw Hats as bait in order to lure Kizaru in to a trap.

This would be a good reason for Pythagoras to betray Vegapunk, as this mission could go very wrong in multiple ways.

Could this be the truth? Is Pythagoras the traitor? Does Vegapunk intend to capture Kizaru?
I look forward to finding out.

That's all I've got for this one. Thanks for reading🙏
