Taehyung does exactly what his best friend suggested: he looks for the younger athlete, and follows him with a decent distance so that it’s not too obvious. He has no idea of what he’ll do once Jungkook goes home after his last lecture.
He misses two of his own lectures to sit on the far back of Jungkook’s, his hood thrown over his head in hopes of going unnoticed. He waits outside when he goes to the bathroom, and even sits behind a tree when Jungkook sits outside with his friends.
Jimin texts him every twenty minutes, which only stresses him more. He hates his abilities, and he wishes that he could just get rid of them, but that’s for another day.
For today, he must keep Jungkook alive. Somehow.
Jungkook isn’t stupid.
He’s seen Taehyung in the reflection of a few doors one too many times, and spotted him in the back of a lecture that they do not share.
He knows that he’s being followed, he just doesn’t know why… but he’ll find out.

“Shit…” Taehyung complains to himself when Jungkook walks a corner of the building, disappearing from his vision, which makes him have to jog. He lets out a startled scream when he’s aggressively pushed against the wall once he, too, makes that corner.
“What the fuck—?!” he hisses.
“I’m the one asking you that.” Jungkook furrows his brows, clearly bothered, letting go of him with another shove. “Why are you following me?”
“I’m not. I’d never. Fucking brute.”
“Do not bullshit me, Kim. I’ve seen you.”
“Of course you’ve seen me, you’re obsessed with me.” Taehyung comments with a smirk that only infuriates the other more.
“If I see you again, I’ll punch you in the nose.” Jungkook threatens, turning on his heels.
“No, wait!” Taehyung calls after him, holding his wrist. His gloves long gone, as they were missing when he tried to get them for the second time, and that same date pops up right above Jungkook’s head. “Christ…” he whispers; it’s terrifying.
“Let go of me.” Jungkook complains, but makes no move to actually free himself.
“You can’t go.” Taehyung states.
“Why the fuck no?”
“Because… Because I said so. You have to, uhm, stay here. In college. Like, until tomorrow.”
Jungkook blinks. “Are you clinically insane?”
“No, I’m serious.” Taehyung holds his wrist tighter when the other tsks and tries to turn around again. “Jeon, you can’t go home today. You have to stay.”
“Why in the goddamn fuck would I stay on campus the whole night?”
“Because.”
“…you said so?” Taehyung nods.
“Yes.”
“I’m meant to stay the rest of the afternoon, the evening, and night here just because you said so?” again, Taehyung nods. “Seek help. I’m out of here.”
Taehyung watches in horror as Jungkook frees himself from his hold and begins walking away from him, his steps quick.
“The date.” he yells out. Jungkook stops in his tracks. “R-Remember the date that you asked me on two years ago? I’m saying yes. Let’s go now.” he sees Jungkook tilt his head, then his shoulders shake as he chuckles incredulously. Taehyung gulps.
What did he just do?
Jungkook turns back to him, stepping closer with his eyes so dark that they pin Taehyung to the wall without him even having to touch. “You’ve been following me to ask me on a date?” he asks, his head still slightly tilted.
“Uhm… Yes, precisely.”
This wasn’t in his plans, and it’s not the right thing to do, but it seems to be a successful way to get Jungkook to stay with him; will he be able to keep Jungkook out on a so-called date up until midnight?
He’s unsure. Reason number one being: they don’t get along anymore.
“I knew that, deep down, you liked me, darling.” Jungkook half-whispers, caressing Taehyung’s jaw with his knuckles. “But it’s too late for that, now I don’t want to go on a date with you.” he shrugs, dropping his hand.
Taehyung’s mouth hangs. “What?”
“I have things to do. If I see you following me, I’ll—”
“Jungkook, please. Spend the day with me. Let’s, uhm, let’s go on that date. Please.”
Jungkook’s eyebrows raise in surprise, and he studies Taehyung’s face for a moment. He looks desperate and scared; weird combination.
“Are you in danger, or something?” Jungkook asks, and Taehyung sees stars. He remembers how protective Jungkook was, and he can only hope that he still feels the same about not letting any harm happen to him.
So, he blurts out, “Yes. Stay with me.”
The younger nods, taking a moment to process the request. “Okay.”
“Okay, what?”
“Okay, let’s go somewhere. It’s not a date, though. I can’t go out with you after being rejected… but I’ll keep you safe. Where are we going?”
Taehyung smiles. “Anywhere… Just stay with me.”
“Lead the way.” Jungkook gestures, and Taehyung quickly turns to start walking. Jungkook’s shoulders sag and he lets out a heavy breath that he had been holding. What is he doing? His heart can’t take it.
Taehyung feels radiant. He’ll keep Jungkook safe.
Or will he?

— I’ve been thinking about writing a OneShot with this theme, and I decided to try it out as a drabble first to see if you guys like it… Thoughts? 🖤
