Okay so How to Make a Good Hero Banner for your Indie Game Website?

There are a few ways you can do them but here are the Top 3:

1. Background Video + Game's Logo
2. Game Art + Game's Logo
3. Animated Game Art + Game's Logo

Let me explain:

#gamedev #indiegame #webdev

1. Background Video + Game's Logo

is by far the MOST popular one that I've seen. This is essentially using a part of your trailer as a background looped video with the logo in front of it.

This is really good in capturing your user's engagement and can be used to showcase the gameplay with less words. It's simple yet very effective in delivering what your game is all about.

Here's a good example of it from Hollow Knight:

2. Game Art + Game's Logo

is the 2nd most popular one that I've seen so far. This is simplest to do as you only need a good eye-catching art of the game and just put in your game's logo on it.

While this technique is simple it may not showcase the gameplay to your audience. However, it still does a good job of showing the vibe and marketing your game. Showcasing your game can also be fixed by having a trailer of your game in the website.

Here's an example of it:

Lastly, 3. Animated Game Art + Game's Logo

I don't see this type often and probably for a good reason as it is harder to make but it has a great "wow" factor and can be an amazing way to present your game.

The way this work is basically we have a different game art layered differently to create a parallax effect. and if you play games like Ori and The blind Forest for example, you can see the parallax effect working in the background of the game.

This is the exact same thing but for a website!

A good example of this is Eastward... I mean just look how cool it is in terms of presentation.

With all of this information... you need to understand that in the end of the day... the goal of a Hero Banner is to SELL and MARKET your game!

So don't forget to include CTA (call to action) somewhere in the banner to redirect users to buy your game! Like this:

These aren't the only ways to create an Eye-Catching hero banners of course. However, these can be a good start.
