However, the Indian constitution does not mention any such authority being vested in the country's top leader.

The notification issued by the LS Secretariat said Rahul Gandhi “stands disqualified from the membership of LS from the date of his conviction i.e. 23 March 2023 in terms of the provisions of Article 102(1)(e) of the Constitution read with Section 8 of the RP Act, 1951”.

Section 8(3) of the RP Act (Representation of the People Act), 1951 states “a person convicted of any offence and sentenced to imprisonment for not less than 2 yrs shall be disqualified from the date of such conviction...”

Thus, the disqualification is triggered by the conviction itself, not by the Lok Sabha notification.
The notification was only a formal notice to the convicted MP Rahul Gandhi.

In 2014, Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalitha was convicted in a disproportionate assets case and was sentenced to 4 years in jail.

Though it seems as If Ro has forgotten that Amarnath Vidyalankar (his grandfather), an INC loyalist, was part of Indira Gandhi’s govt during the harsh period of emergency in India.
He did not oppose the brutal atrocities on Indian masses during the Emergency.
