What is it like to be aware of your own consciousness?
#meditation #spirituality

We are aware of our own consciousness all the time.

How else are we self-assured that we are alive?

Yet, our awareness of consciousness is weak because it is muddled with thoughts which include the ‘I’ thought, the self-identity.

It is like you are seeing glimpses of your reflection in a dusty mirror.
Again, it is not possible for ‘I’ to be aware of ‘pure (let’s say abstract) consciousness’.

You can see it right now.

Try to be aware of yourself.

You can either be Self-aware or you can think ‘I am aware’, and the latter is a thought.

Try to be aware of your breath. You can see that the moment ‘I’ thought intervenes, awareness is gone and thoughts encroach.

Consciousness is first, and ‘I’ is only next.

Further…..

When you wake up in the morning, what comes first?

Consciousness or ‘I’?

One cannot give birth to his grandfather.

Similarly, ‘I’ cannot be aware of ‘pure consciousness’.

In fact, ‘I’ being the self-identity is the biggest hindrance to the pure awareness of consciousness.

Unless this narrow I-identity is dropped, how to realize abstract consciousness?

Meditation and Spirituality of any kind help to drop this ‘I’ so this awareness is realized.

The answer, therefore, is
“To be aware of my consciousness is to remain aware AS consciousness without ‘my’”
