The Witcher 3 is one of the most detailed open world games ever made, even almost 10 years later, it really set a standard for all RPGs after it.

Here are 10 hidden & terrifying Easter eggs from TW3 that you probably missed. A Thread 🧵

1) Ghost Ship

Around midnight in this location in Skellige, you can come across an extremely rare Ghost Ship that hasn't been seen by most players, it is a bit bigger than Geralt's own boat and is definitely paying homage to the Flying Dutchman.

2) Ciri has been to Night City

Ciri has seemingly been to the Cyberpunk universe at some point, she describes it in a ton of detail in this specific dialogue exchange here, I still wish we got a nod to Ciri as a character in Cyberpunk via a side quest.

3) Killing too many cows

So a bit of context behind this one: Back in the day, there used to be an easy money-making method in TW3 where you could kill cows around towns, take their loot and sell it for a nice profit.

CDPR, instead of nerfing the payouts to fix this exploit, decided instead to spawn a massive infinitely high-level monster that absolutely DESTROYS Geralt in combat if you kill too many cows in quick succession

4) The Tax Collector

Added with the Heart of Stone DLC, the Tax Collector as an encounter occurs when Geralt comes into a lot of money a bit too quickly, he will proceed to ask Geralt about various money glitches and if he has engaged in them.

This is genuinely hilarious and completely fourth-wall-breaking and I adore just how serious this character seems

5) Tyrion Lannister

You can seemingly find Tyrion in TW3 who appears to have met his grisly fate in a sky cell similar to those in The Eyrie where he was imprisoned in season one of Game of Thrones.

6) Weeping Angels

In Velen, you can find the "Weeping Angels" statues (A Doctor Who reference) that change positions whenever Geralt looks away from them.

Encountering those at night is genuinely a terrifying experience.

7) Dark Souls Bonfire

In Blood & Wine during the "Beyond Hill and Dale" quest near the end of it after defeating the Cloud Giant Boss, you can find a Bonfire with a sword embedded into it.

An obvious reference to the Bonfires from Dark Souls!

8) DRM

Here's a hilarious bit, During the "The Tower Outta Nowheres" quest you have to de-activate the Tower's security systems to free this Mage.

The tower is outfitted with a Defensive Regulatory Magicon (DRM) and can only be removed using "Gottfried's Omni-opening Grimoire" (GOG)

This is a pretty meta joke on CDPR's anti-DRM stance with their own game launcher GOG.

9) War, War never changes

You can come across a Peasant who repeats the iconic Fallout line "War, War never changes"

The other NPC's response to this is equally hilarious "Neither do you! lazy as you always been!"

10) CD Projekt Red

And for the final easter egg, deep out of bounds in Blood & Wine lies a beautiful portrait of the entire dev team at CDPR who worked on this incredible title that has truly defined a generation ❤️

Can't wait to see what these guys cook up with TW4

It's crazy how much was packed into The Witcher 3 considering it was CDPR's first ever open world game, there is arguably much more content here than there was even in Cyberpunk, and I can't wait to see how Witcher 4 manages to surpass both those games.
