The Templar commandery served as a hub for managing the order's properties, farms, and resources in the Luberon valley. It was also a place where the #TemplarKnights would reside and train.
The commandery was eventually taken over by the #KnightsHospitaller (also known as the #OrderOfMalta), who had previously been in control of the region. The village of Joucas 🇫🇷 was deserted during the Wars of Religion in the 16th century.
While most of the physical structures of the #KnightTemplars commandery have been altered or destroyed in Joucas 🇫🇷, the village's #history and the #legacy of the #Templars remain visible in its #architecture and #cultural #heritage.
