A short ๐งต about the #KnightTemplars presence in a small village in Provence.
Joucas ๐ซ๐ท is a vibrant village known for its beautiful #architecture, artistic community, and panoramic views of the Luberon region.
The #KnightsTemplar, a military and religious order founded in the 12th century to defend pilgrims to Jerusalem, established a commandery in #Joucas ๐ซ๐ท This commandery was a significant administrative center for the order in the region.
The Templar commandery served as a hub for managing the order's properties, farms, and resources in the Luberon valley. It was also a place where the #TemplarKnights would reside and train.
The commandery was eventually taken over by the #KnightsHospitaller (also known as the #OrderOfMalta), who had previously been in control of the region. The village of Joucas ๐ซ๐ท was deserted during the Wars of Religion in the 16th century.
While most of the physical structures of the #KnightTemplars commandery have been altered or destroyed in Joucas ๐ซ๐ท, the village's #history and the #legacy of the #Templars remain visible in its #architecture and #cultural #heritage.

A ๐งต about reflections in ๐ฎ๐น & ๐ซ๐ท #windows and a #poem.
Reflections dance, a shifting play,
Of inner self, and what holds sway.
A window's touch, a transient gleam,
On surfaces, a waking dream.ย

A ๐งต about Saint-Saturnin-lรจs-Apt which was the most important pre-#Roman settlement in the Apt region. The Albici, the #Gallic tribe inhabiting the region abandoned the site when the Romans established Apt, 6 km south.
In 1009, a #castrum (fortified settlement) was established on the rock, and walls began to appear in the 11th century.
Ramparts were built in the late 13th and early 16th centuries, as the village grew beyond the initial defensive walls.
Saint-Saturnin-lรจs-Apt played a key role in the French Resistance, particularly during the bloody events of July 1, 1944. #WWII

The Esquiline Obelisk and the Basilica of #SantaMariaMaggiore, #Roma ๐ฎ๐น which was built on the site where tradition says it miraculously snowed during the summer, some 1,700 years ago. Inside, now are two discreet tombs: Pope #Francis and #Bernini, the great sculptor of #Baroque.
The Basilica of #SantaMariaMaggiore is one of the four major papal basilicas as well as one of the Seven Pilgrim Churches of Rome and the largest Marian church in #Roma ๐ฎ๐น

1- The #Trevi Fountain (and a #bird). Its origins take us back to 19 BC, when the famous fountain was just the end point of the smallest aqueduct in #Rome ๐ฎ๐น known as Aqua Virgo, which had been active for over 2,000 years.
2- In the 15th century a simple fountain was built on the site; in 1629 Pope Urban VIII decided to replace it by a beautiful new one built against the Palazzo Poli, with Neptune as its central figure. (the fountain by night)
3- It was designed by Italian #architect Nicola #Salvi and completed by Giuseppe #Pannini in 1762 and several others. It is the largest #Baroque fountain in #Rime ๐ฎ๐น and one of the most famous fountains in the world (the #bird).
