The Jasper report has 9 key themes and 23 recommendations.
But Danielle Smith has taken issue with one of those themes, claiming the town of Jasper owes her an apology.
But again, the Streisand effect strikes and Dani has trouble truthing!
Let’s take a look!
/1
First, let’s establish some timelines!
Fortunately, the report does that very early on.
The report clearly demonstrates that the first fires inside the town of Jasper were reported on July 24th at roughly 6 PM.
/3
Ok!
With that out of the way, let’s take a look at what Smith is taking issue with!
It’s predominantly these two sections.
The report states that “the Province of Alberta, though not jurisdictionally responsible to lead the incident, regularly requested information and sought to exercise decision-making authority.”
/3
Now again, this is simply one identified areas of weakness, there are 9 themes and 23 recommendations.
The provinces insistence on having “decision making authority” is a single factor of many.
/4
But yesterday when asked about the provinces involvement, Dani demanded an apology and claimed the province had nothing to do with anything until after the town had burned.
No really!
Here she is!
/5
Except…
That’s not quite true is it?
Because if we take a look at a presser that occurred on July 23rd, the day before the fire entered Jasper, Mike Ellis spoke about how he and the premier were making constant calls to AEMA, who were imbedded in the command.
/6
So…
It seems Alberta was “embedded” in the command teams and the premier was making phone calls and requested information.
Just like the report says.
But that’s not even the biggest point here.
/7
The report doesn’t single out the provinces involvement.
It’s listed as one factor among many.
What’s on display here is Dani’s reaction to criticism.
Escalate and react, without any regard for truth, context or facts.
That’s how the premier consistently responds.
/8
And that should be the real cause for concern.
It’s highly unlikely that Smith read the report before being asked these questions.
She could have just said that.
But instead, she went on the attack, laid blame, ignored what actually happened and demanded apologies.
/9
That Smith and her minister were making calls for information is a matter of the word of her minister.
So who’s lying?
Ellis then?
Or Smith now…
Guess we could always ask her?
