If this were a superhero movie, you wouldn’t believe it.

In 2006, Hugh Jackman got cancer.

Over the next 15 years, he beat cancer 6 times while playing the most physically demanding role in Hollywood: "Wolverine."

This is a true story:🧵

Hugh was filming X-Men: The Last Stand when he first noticed it.

A tiny patch of dry skin.

His wife, Deborra-Lee, told him to get it checked.

Good thing he listened.

It turned out to be “basal cell carcinoma”, the most common type of skin cancer.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) doesn’t usually spread.

But it grows slowly and damages skin and tissue.

Left untreated, it disfigures the face, sometimes deeply.

Hugh had surgery. He thought that was the end.

Turns out It wasn’t....

Over the next 15 years, Hugh Jackman was diagnosed 5 more times.

He was often preparing for the most physically demanding role in Hollywood: Wolverine.

And he had to do it every time cancer tried to knock him down…

He built the body of a superhero after surgery….6 times

At 50, he trained for Logan—a film about aging, pain, and mortality.

It was the most emotional Wolverine yet.

But what fans didn’t know?

Hugh was still fighting his own real-life battle.

Cancer had returned again....

There were moments he was scared and doubted.

He once admitted he’d been “pretty scared” waiting for test results in 2023.

The results came back clear.

Hugh posted with a smile:

“PLEASE WEAR SUNSCREEN. Even if you never did before, start now.”

It’s summer.

Remember to put on sunscreen and protect yourself.

If you’re looking for sunscreens to protect yourself, here’s the best one I’ve found:

Jackman uses his platform to urge people to:
• Wear SPF 30+ sunscreen daily (no exceptions)
• Get skin checks 1–2x/year
• Know their family history
• Treat suspicious spots early

“Please wear sunscreen” is his most repeated message

He once said:

“The thing I hate more than anything is to be afraid of something and not do it.”

So he kept going.

Each time, he went under the knife.

Each time, he returned to the gym (often with a bandage still on his face).

Superhero. Surgery. Gym.

Repeat.

Then he got back to being a superhero.

He never made it dramatic.

When asked how he stayed motivated, he said:

“If you’re not always just a little bit afraid, you’re not really alive.”
