Trump is a malignant narcissist whose only loyalty is to himself. The only use he has for others is to feed his endless need for adulation - the question is- what will a man like this do to save himself as Mueller closes in and a blue wave threatens to wipe out his support system
If Trump is even half as corrupt as he appears to be does anyone really believe he will allow himself to be impeached let alone indicted and sent to prison? No, never. The question then becomes: what won't a man like Trump do to save himself and avoid prosecution?
Trump has cut ties with traditional allies and cozied up to dictators and oligarchs,the very men who helped him win in 2016 and are poised to do it again, so With a blue wave closing in,there are only two options left: either rrig the midterms or put a stop them.
Russia, China, and North Korea all have cyber bombs planted in our infrastructure. This is now common knowledge.All three also have a vested interest in keeping Trump in office - they could wreak havoc by shutting down even a even relatively small portion of our grid
Sabotaging generators that power cities like New York and Los Angeles would be a catastrophe of major proportions with no fear of retaliation -in the ensuing chaos, Trump could declare a national emergency, invoke martial law, and, best of all, suspend the midterms indefinitely.
Of course, this scenario would require buy in from the military - but, with the ensuing chaos and at least half the country supporting him what choice would they have? They would follow the rule of law just like we do now, even though we know there is a traitor sitting in the WH.
I would like to be wrong - I would like someone out there to refute this scenario point by point - and show me why it is implausible or absurd - but until then it seems, to me at least, the next logical step for a man like Trump to take
Either Trump finds a plausible excuse that allows him to suspend the elections and solidify his power or he faces a democratic house and the wrath of Mueller. We all know who Trump is by now, so what does your common sense tell you?
And the notion that Trump wants to warehouse families indefinitely on military bases makes this worst case scenario even more ominous

Actually this scenario could be even simpler: Trump doesn't need martial law to achieve his goal- he can simply delay the midterms! And to do that all he needs is for the grid to go dark right before the vote, just like in Ukraine. No martial law, no suspension- just delay!!
And if the Republicans can keep Trump in office until Ginsburg kicks the bucket or retires then they'll have another conservative on the court - that would be a huge win for them. So dismantling our entire system is not only unnecessary, it would be foolhardy. Just delay -
This article sent chills up my spine when I first read it in 2017, and, given Trumps flagrant (and growing) contempt for the rule of law, it seems even more plausible now especially since the dems are poised to take back the house and reign him in or worse
