My grandfather survived Stalin's famine in Ukraine and witnessed atrocities of man-made starvation, like a Soviet sanitation wagon picking up a woman lying dead in the road, throwing her and her still living infant like trash into the wagon, which was piled with dead bodies. 2/6

Gareth Jones was killed, research suggests, by men connected to the Soviet secret police on August 12th, the day before his 30th birthday. My niece, @AlexandraChalup's youngest daughter, was born August 12th, the day I happened to give a presentation on Gareth in DC. 4/6
