1/ Thread. In this video, a woman asks Trudeau when Quebec is going to get the $146M needed to cover costs related to social supports for illegal border crossers. He calls her intolerant. Keep in mind those are the exact questions we have been asking him. montreal.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=1…
2/ The global migrant crisis affects the entire world. But not everyone can be resettled to Canada. Aid, military intervention, trade, social reforms are other policy interventions. This is why when we do resettle people, we should be asking these questions:
3/ How many people can Canada take in per year, while ensuring that they successfully integrate into the Canadian social and economic fabric? How do we do that? How much will such interventions cost? How do we budget for that, taking into consideration taxation rates and...
4/...our obligation to provide support for Canadians who are already here? Who are we prioritizing for entry into the country? Are people who have already reached the United States truly the world’s most vulnerable? Are the provinces capable of taking in this many people?
5/ I ask these questions every day. I get no answers from Trudeau, and indeed he accuses Comervatives of intolerance on a daily basis. I’d argue that by casting out labels like this, and failing to answer the questions I just laid out, it is he who is putting the sustainability..
6/ of Canadian pluralism at risk. In this video, his response to this woman is the same response he gives to me. That is irresponsible.

1/ Today, after a week of heavy preparation, I was going to launch a defence of Trudeau's war on workers in a key Canadian industry. Instead, a CPC caucus member did this, and this is what will lead the news for a week. Liberals are rejoicing! Thread.
2/ Prices of basic goods are out of control. We have a major labour AND unemployment crisis. Canada's deficit is out of control. There will always be differences in a party - but this.....we will never overcome the Liberals if we're in open public warfare with each other.
3/ Canada needs stability right now - we are a nation in crisis. As leaders in the official opposition, we MUST be focused on holding the Libs to account. We can vigorously debate what that looks like internally, and doing so we unite as a team and hold ourselves to account too.
@kinsellawarren Canada has had an elected female MP who won the leadership of a political party and became PM.
Canada has not had an elected female MP who won the leadership of a political party and led said party through a general election that resulted in her party forming government.
@kinsellawarren The reasons for why the latter has never happened is where the real debate lies.
@kinsellawarren 1/ Women bear a disproportionate cost of child rearing. So unless you're from deep privilege, many women must choose not to have kids, wait until they're independent, or have a partner who load shares to have the time over years to build the networks needed for such an endeavour.
1/ I probably will disagree with most of @AnnamiePaul's policy positions, but how could I know if her voice can't be heard? Her voice is worthy, and this type of treatment is indicative of how women who seek to upend the status quo are treated in politics. So, to you, Annamie...
2/ Rule one, do not be polite. They want you to be nice and polite to keep you complacent and keep the status quo alive. When change must be made, at all costs, avoid being polite. In you is a militant, angry, fearless and ruthless woman. Unleash her.
3/ They will hate this. They will never like you, and they will seek to marginalize you, but they will deal with you because they have to. This is a workable situation, because it is a situation you are in control of, not them.
This exchange b/w Morneau & LPC backbencher shows where the sword is being pointed on the Trudeau/Morneau We scandal by the LPC: a junior female cab min who isnt part of old Laurentian money circles @BardishKW. This is why women shouldn’t do men’s dirty work. (Via @brianlilley)
The reality is @BardishKW has dutifully carried water for Trudeau on many occasions, answering questions in the House for him on a range of shitty topics, including his history with blackface, the groping allegations, Aga Khan island, SNC Lavalin and more.
And what did @BardishKW get after the election for all the water she carried for those men? A demotion. I don’t agree with her on a lot of stuff but this is bullshit. It’s also a cautionary tale for her and others like her.
1/ Ok. I'm just about done my zoom calls for the day and catching up on this, so let's do this. Thread. Before I do, I ask you all to read this. mprempel.ca/news/f/mp-remp…
2/ Since the Star got personal I guess I will, even though I hate doing so. I've never believed in the whole "work life balance" myth as it relates to politics. To do this job well it is all consuming. Period. I've gone through two major relationship breakups in politics.
3/ Last year something miraculous happened - I got remarried, to someone who understands that my community comes first. He has been through a lot himself, but has always, ALWAYS supported my work for my community. Even writing this makes me tear up with gratitude for him.
1/ Derek, with everything else going on in my community that I need to fight for, I can't believe I have to use my platform explain to you why what you said at precisely at the 0:40 mark of your video is so profoundly wrong, but here we go. Thanks, buddy. Thread.
2/ "Does she work for China or for Canada". That's what you said. Not, "I have concerns about the advice she's been providing to Canadians" or "the response of the WHO needs to be severely scrutinized". Why did you use the former phrasing as opposed to the latter?
3/ I can't believe I have to say this (and profuse apologies to her to have to be part of a public object lesson to an MP), but Dr. Tam is of Asian heritage. So when you say, "does she work for China or for Canada" many people will think you're suggesting she has dual loyalties.
