Season so far pressing thread
1) West Ham PAPA chart
A very intense half to start the season with a lot of high pressing and group pressing Image
2) Palace PAPA chart
First 15 was one of the most intense periods we've seen under Klopp. LFC 61% possession, 51 presses, Palace 87 passes Image
Press directions. Both games saw much less activity on the LFC left. Image
4) pressing highlights West ham
High team efficiency (88%)
27% of all pressing in groups (good)
Unusually large volume of presses in the high right zone (27)
Top presser Naby Keita: 33 @ 91%, most Poss Wins (10), most Group Presses (9)
5) Pressing Highlights Palace
30% of pressing in groups (very good)
53% of all pressing in low zones (average 41%)
Top presser: Naby Keita 32 @ 88% efficiency, most Group Presses (11).
6) for 2018/19 we are now recording the opponent who was the "target" of the press.
West Ham example Felipe Anderson
Pressed 26 times. Much in the West ham left back channel
100% efficiency
4 PW
5 GP
1 led to shot
Welcome to the #EPL Felipe Image
7) Palace target example: Andros Townsend
Pressed 25 times @ 100% but much of it in low zones, 7 times in groups.
But note the 4 possession wins when Townsend got pressed high. Also 1 led to shot Image

Brighton pod just recorded and out soon. A sad day for us here because we all agreed this is the worst pressing performance we've ever analysed under Klopp.
Thread of images coming up 👇
The intensity, work rate and effort was all there. We tried to roll back the years and do our thing....but the execution was catastrophic
84 failed presses!! 8 failed presses leading to opposition shots. Both unwanted records.

Latest pod now out covering Benfica 2nd leg and Man City SF
Some huge pressing stories in this one and some images of our unique data coming up
Mane and Salah have had some huge pressing games in the past but both got their career max against City, 47 for Sadio and 49 for Mo (with 14 possession wins!)
Naby Keita delivered the highest possession adjusted figure we've ever collected, 65.1 !!
A tactical look at how out front 6 pressed against City. First of all, Diaz and Salah. Very high and very wide, almost hugging the touchlines

With the #EPL returning this weekend, it's time for our look at one of the issues affecting #LFC this season: the effectiveness of our systemic press. We think this is a unique perspective using our in-house pressing data
First of all it's worth noting that there are no issues with the intensity or volume of our press. And the production from the press in attack (shots, XG, counter-attacks) has been very good. The issues are on the defensive side, pressers being bypassed and gaps in the chain.
The pressing system is primarily the front 6 with secondary contributions from the fullbacks. This season #LFC have taken a mainstay out of that system (Wijnaldum) while another has played much less (Firmino). The result has been some significant teething problems

Thread covering our latest podcast discussion on Brentford committing all 10 players at attacking set plays.
What do they know that everyone else (except Midjtylland) doesn't?
Let's start with Midjtylland. This was their claimed performance across 4 seasons starting from their first title win in 14/15.
45% of goals from set plays.
0.75 set play goals per game.
This is what they look like compared to EPL teams in last 5 years. Image
Midjtylland were (and still are) a petri dish for football analytics. Their in house data is only available to themselves...and Brentford.

Real Madrid pod is out and unsurprisingly there is detailed look at our pressing using our unique data. The narrative that "we didn't press" is wrong. We pressed Real 167 times and the Leipzing first leg was 172. The issue was where and how we pressed. THREAD
One of the biggest stories is that Jota playing the centre forward role did not press Kroos once during the entire match. In fact neither Jota or Mane pressed Kroos during the match. Jota and Mane pressed the same people in the same locations (Vasquez, Militao, Modric)
We talked quite a bit about the roles of Mane and Jota when both play and how they interchange from the left. Is it a tactical decision or is Jota still learning the pressing patterns?

Chelsea podcast recorded and out soon. The most presses we've made in any match for nearly 2 years (260), despite having 61% possession and playing 45 mins with a man advantage. Incredible intensity from the Reds
The most impressive thing about our pressing in was the balance of the system. Coming up are 3 pressmaps and look at the symmetry in the left and right halves of the pitch
1. Mo and Mane. Either high, central inside the oppostion box or to the outside of the halfspaces
2. Bobby and Naby. High and central between the D and centre circle focusing on Jorginho (Bobby) and Kovacic (Naby). Bobby targeted Jorginho 13 times in total and Naby 15 on Kovacic
