Will be live-tweeting Gerard Batten's speech to the #Ukip conference shortly.
"It's about time we made crime illegal, in this country" begins Gerard Batten to applause.
New Ukip policy-document proposes to give Neighbourhood Watch Associations recognized status as courts.

Exuding a sense of great ambition - which belies a domestic lifestyle.
Gerard Batten modestly proclaims that under his leadership, Ukip have made historic gains.

Going from zero councillors and no MPs in 2017; to no MPs and zero councillors in 2018. "A number which can only increase" he says, proudly.
Ukip's new education policies bind commonsense to patriotism: "a framed copy of the Magna Carta must be displayed in all primary schools" + morse code lessons will become "a compulsory part of the national curriculum".
On the subject of Brexit, Gerard Batten intones:

"Simple maths demonstrates that we will always have the upper-hand against the EU. The British are simply the best, and Europeans want to be British - so they will have to do as we say. One country outnumbers twenty-seven".
Audience goes wild.
Gerard Batten moves on to the issue of foreign policy. "The Channel Tunnel will be widened by 12 inches". This should "pay for itself, as exported livestock can be lined up sideways".
Batten has a strong message on political correctness: "while there's no law against burning poppies, or flags, it's now illegal to set fire to public libraries which stock copies of foreign books. No telling where that might lead".

#Orwell
Gerard Batten relays an anecdote to support his point: "I don't know what a "selfie stick" [he does the fingers thing here] is, and quite frankly I do not want to know.
If anything this whole episode merely serves to show everything that is wrong with our country, these days".
Not clear whether the audience are cheering, or trying to catch the attention of a passing waiter.
Batten concludes - complaining about the suppression of free speech, by the mainstream media.

His speech will be broadcast by ITV, Channel 4, BBC News, & Sky News later today. The Daily Mail, Sun, Express, Telegraph, and Times are expected to provide extensive quotes.

The last time Britain's government openly ignored their duties under international law was way back in...June 2020, when the UN warned them about their failure to replace dangerous cladding on buildings.

They were accused of breaching international law during October 2019, due to covering-up allegations of torture:

In 2015, they were breaching international law by supplying weapons to Saudi Arabia, while its military were committing war crimes in Yemen - a practice which hasn't stopped:

When Black protesters complained to Buttigieg about siding with a white police officer who had killed a Black man, a woman asked if he expected Black people to vote for him - and he replied "I'm not asking for your vote".

It's not really good enough that white Democrats try to exploit the BLM movement, to serve their own political ends, when deep down, few of them care about meaningful change.

Stephen Bush was among the many commentators adamant that May's Tories were on course to decimate Labour.

And when they proved to be wrong, rather than acknowledge it - or have any humility - they began pretending they'd never thought this.

I don't think Labour would have won in 2017, had it not been for the wrecking antics of Labour MPs/HQ.

But their misconduct was unacceptable, and I would like to see them held to account for what happened. That's all.

5 songs about LGBT+ themes. I've tried to avoid the best-known anthems, and just post ones I enjoy.

1. Kitchens of Distinction - Sand on fire. Which makes fun of Dante's depiction of the Sodomites.

Longstocking - Goddess. About the fun of embracing it.

Team Dresch - Handgrenade. A more ambivalent take on the same theme.

In 2015, David Cameron boasted "we’ve taken real steps to fight poverty. This has led to 600,000 adults and 300,000 children being taken out of relative poverty".

In reality, they had entered absolute poverty.

Cameron's article, containing his claim:

The government's own data noted that 600,000 adults entered absolute poverty after housing costs (AHC), on page 36:
