1/This is a must read article comparing the rise of Hitler in 1930s Weimar Germany to the take over of our Constitutional Republic by the Trump/GOP. Absolutely chilling. And much worse now because today’s fascists are armed with nuclear weapons. Here are some excerpts:👇👇👇👇
3/When an ever-shrinking base of support for traditional conservatism made it impossible to carry out the authoritarian revision of the constitution, Hindenburg and the old right ultimately pinned their hopes on Hitler and installed him as chancellor (sound familiar?!)
4/They used Hitler’s popular support to further their ‘conservative’ agenda: intensified rearmament, banning the Communist Party, suspending freedom of speech, press, assembly, and the parliamentary government itself, a purge of the civil service, and abolition of labor unions.
5/If the US has someone historians will look back on as the gravedigger of US democracy, it is Mitch McConnell. He stoked the hyperpolarization of US politics to make the Obama presidency as dysfunctional/paralyzed as possible, blocking all Dem legislation, and judicial nominees.
6/As in the Weimar parliament, congressional gridlock in Congress diminishes respect for democratic norms, allowing McConnell to trample them w/impunity. Nowhere is this vicious circle clearer than in the obliteration of traditional precedents concerning judicial appointments.
7/To counter McConnell systematic obstruction of Obama’s judicial appointments, the Dems scrapped the 60 vote rule for all but SCOTUS nominees.McConnell’s unprecedented blocking of Garland then led the Trump/GOP to scrap the rule for SCOTUS allowing them to complete their “steal”
8/Whatever reservations McConnell/GOP have about Trump’s character, governing style, and possible criminality, they openly rejoice in the payoff they have received from their alliance with him and his base:
9/Huge tax cuts for the wealthy, financial and environmental deregulation, the nominations of two conservative Supreme Court justices (so far) and a host of other conservative judicial appointments, and a significant reduction in government-sponsored health care.
10/But the Nazi dictatorship, war, and genocide following the collapse of Weimar Germany are not useful for understanding the direction in which we are moving today. Current trends reflect a significant divergence from the dictatorships of the 1930s.
11/The current wave of dictatorships aspiring to ‘totalitarianism’ have all discovered that opposition parties can be left in place and elections held in order to provide a fig leaf of democratic legitimacy, while in reality elections pose scant challenge to dictatorial power
12/Total control of the press and other media is unnecessary, since a flood of managed/fake news so pollutes the flow of information that facts/truth become irrelevant as shapers of public opinion. Independent judiciaries are dismantled through the appt of political loyalists.
13/Crony capitalism creates a symbiosis of corruption/self-enrichment btw govt and business. Xenophobic nationalism (aka anti-immigrant white nationalism) and the prioritization of “law and order”over individual rts is used to rally the base- “enemies” are created and stigmatized
14/The GOP has a systemic advantage in electing senators/representatives.50 senators from the 25 least populous states-29 of them Republican-represent just over 16% of the American population! And 34 GOP senators represent states that contain only 21% of the American population.
15/With gerrymandering and voter suppression enhancing this Republican advantage, it is estimated that the Dems will have to win by 7 to 11 points (a margin only obtainable in rare “wave” elections) to achieve even the narrowest of majorities in the House of Representatives.
16/The unprecedented flow of dark money into closely contested campaigns has distorted the electoral process fueled by the SCOTUS decision in Citizen’s United that declared corporations ‘people’ and ‘money’ free speech, giving the wealthy and corporations undue influence. . .
17/Dems might win state elections in major blue states but become increasingly irrelevant in elections for the presidency and Congress. Trump’s tactic of appealing to a narrow base, may energize Dems and ind. and lead to precisely that ‘rare wave’ election evidenced in 2018.
18/Unlike Hitler who had to abolish labor unions, Trump benefits from the steady decline of organized labor. Since the 1970s, the social contract btw labor/management has collapsed, union membership has declined, wages have stagnated, and wealth inequality has risen dramatically
19/Alongside the erosion of an independent judiciary as a check on executive power, other hallmarks of illiberal democracy are the neutralization of a free press thru propaganda (Fox News)and the steady erosion of basic human rights:immigrants are demonized; their children caged
20/No matter when the Trump presidency ends (if it ends!) the specter of illiberalism will haunt America. A highly politicized SCOTUS/judiciary; racial divisions, cultural conflicts;and political polarization all intensified by the Trump/GOP will be difficult to heal.
21/Gerrymandering, voter suppression, and uncontrolled campaign spending will continue to skew elections in an unrepresentative and undemocratic direction. Growing income inequality will continue to be used by ideologues to divide and conquer the electorate.
22/No wall will be high enough to shelter us from the growing effects of climate change and the on-going weaponization of our planet by American empire. Regardless of how the Trump presidency concludes, this is a story unlikely to have a happy ending. Pls read this article!

1/ Euphemisms help normalize these men!
Trump isn’t just ‘uniquely bad’; Trump is a fascist’.
A president who uses his pulpit to mislead the electorate isn’t just ‘dishonest’; he’s propagandist!
The press better show some guts before these GOP fascists steal the next election
2/GOP FASCISTS hide in plain sight behind sham elections that provide them with a ‘fig leaf’ of democratic legitimacy.
They exploit our ‘civility’ and ‘sense of fair play’;
Bend the law until it breaks; and
Hide behind euphemisms that normalize their treachery.
3/Today’s fascists know that outright censorship is unnecessary, that their flood of fake news so pollutes the media that facts/truth become virtually irrelevant.Scapegoats, wealth inequality, race, and religion are weaponized to rally/divide an increasingly desperate electorate.
”Below is a potential Lawfare piece from New Year’s Day 2021, following a not-quite-worst-case scenario of election interference using real vulnerabilities in U.S. electoral systems, as well as social media, traditional media and the political sphere.” lawfareblog.com/op-ed-future-e…
1/This is a chilling prediction of what could happen in 2021 if we don’t secure our ballot ahead of the 2020 elections, written by one of the researchers who contributed to the 2019 Stanford University study/Report on “Securing American Elctions”
2/In this fictionalized piece, Mr. Stamos delineates in excruciating detail what could go wrong in the lead up to, and on, Election Day 2020.
You really have to read that for yourself.
The question he leaves us with is this -
What will happen after?
Here are his thoughts👇
Alabama Sharpiegate! “If Trump went (this) far over a weather forecast, how far do you think he will go to remain President of the United States, and by extension, avoid the criminal prosecution that awaits him as soon as he is not?” thekingsnecktie.com/2019/09/19/kni…
1/“My fear is that while we sit here . . . treating this like a normal election. . . within the bounds of what we have always thought of as an orthodox American presidential contest-Trump and the GOP are . . .approaching it like a gang of armed robbers walking into a bank.”
2/The GOP will contest vote counts-sow chaos-rig the actual vote-falsify the numbers so it appears Trump won in places where he didn’t, and dispute the results in places where he lost. (For a sneak preview, see how Putin behaved in the Russian elections earlier this month.)
1/The GOP is setting the stage to help Trump steal or derail the 2020 elections.
So there are really only two questions left:
1/How far will Trump go in order to stay in office and avoid indictment; and
2/How far will the GOP go to help him?
Here are my answers 👇
2/It is only common sense that when you tell a man who meets secretly w/dictators and owes his fortune to money laundering oligarchs, that the only way he can avoid prison is by staying in office, he will do anything to stay there. Absolutely anything.
3/Trump has ALREADY ABUSED his EMERGENCY POWERS TWICE to CIRCUMVENT CONGRESS:1/to fund his border wall (a scam blessed by his SCOTUS) and 2/to sell arms to the Saudis. So let’s take a moment to think about how TRUMP could use his emergency powers to sabotage the 2020 elections.
1/Heres the question: why didn’t the Dem leadership challenge the constitutionality of that DOJ policy Trump is hiding behind to avoid indictment? And, worse, why did they mislead us by acting as if that policy is settled law- a policy that endangers all life on this planet?👇
2/The DOJ policy against indicting a sitting president creates a moral hazard of catastrophic proportions -it INCENTIVIZES a criminal president to abuse his power in order to remain in office and it allows a criminal president to hide behind his office and run for re-election!
3/And although @ewarren made this part of her policy platform stating “If Donald Trump were anyone other than the President . . . he would be in handcuffs and indicted.”she and her colleagues did nothing to challenge this dangerous policy right now👇
1/Very few people realize that our nuclear deterrence protocol, enacted by Congress during the Cold War, gives a president the unilateral power to not only respond to a nuclear attack BUT to launch a nuclear attack WITHOUT CONSULTING ANYONE AT ALL and FOR ANY REASON AT ALL
2/In 2018 bipartisan bills to check this unlimited presidential power were blocked by McConnell-so the man who dozens of psychiatrists say has a dangerous mental illness and who is facing criminal indictment the moment he leaves office, has the power to launch a nuclear war.
3/interactions with family, friends, and co-workers tells me that people just don’t know how this First Strike Protocol works; that it literally gives one man the power to start a nuclear war. Clearly, no man or woman should have that power, let alone this man.
