BREAKING: @facebook just announced a new policy banning content that promotes white nationalism and white separatism as impermissible hate speech, following nine months of advocacy from the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.
.@facebook's new policy declares white nationalism and white separatism to be equivalent to white supremacy, and prohibits any praise, support or representation of these hateful ideologies.
There is no defensible distinction that can be drawn between white supremacy, white nationalism or white separatism in society today. By maintaining this distinction, Facebook ended up providing violent racists a platform that could be exploited to promote hate.
.@KristenClarkeJD: "While we are pleased that Facebook is taking long overdue action, we know well that communities are still reeling from the rise in hate & racially motivated violence, & that extensive remedial action must be taken to ensure that hate is eliminated..."
We undertook extensive advocacy with Facebook, including the issuance of a letter that demonstrated that “white nationalism and white separatism are white supremacy”. documentcloud.org/documents/4910…

🚨BREAKING: We're suing Donald Trump, Roger Stone, the Proud Boys & more for their role in the Jan. 6 insurrection. That was an attack on democracy. It was a blatant attempt to stifle the votes & voices of millions of Americans, particularly Black voters. bit.ly/3jgzC4W
"If they didn't do what they did that day – if they didn't have the courage to stand up – I don't know that we'd be living in a democracy today."
“As this lawsuit makes clear, the Jan. 6 insurrection was not just an attack on individuals, but an attack on democracy itself. It was a blatant attempt to stifle the votes and voices of millions of Americans, particularly Black voters." -@DamonTHewitt
"It will take a postal service that can operate effectively and efficiently for American's voices to be heard. And that's not what we're seeing from this post master general." #SaveTheUSPS#Election2020#COVID19
"Drop boxes managed and run by election officials have been a staple for safe elections. And the postal service is the only entity that is structured to serve all communities. It provides a critical service to the electorate at large."
On Friday night in Atlanta, GA, attorneys from our Voting Rights Project at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law concluded two days of arguments in Curling v. Raffensperger in Federal District Court. @LawyersComm
The @LawyersComm represents a group of plaintiffs fighting for the right of Georgia voters to have fair and secure elections.
We argue that to ensure safe and secure elections, the state of Georgia should change from electronic voting machines to a paper balloting system.
