Living in a neighborhood with people of diversity can be so refreshing. Here I was thinking that the folks living in the multi tenanted building next to mine had a set of twins and two other kids. Until today when I finally connect the dots. #LoveThyNeighbour
For years I have been overhearing the man instruct his brothers (I guess he has about 2 of his younger siblings living with him also) “Lö tan Táiyé” (Go switch on Taiwo). Some other days he would say “Lö tan Kenny” (Go switch on KENNY). I kept wondering what the Hell! 🤔
If I don’t know better I would have thought his twins were Igors or Frankensteins that needed electric jolts to come alive. But I chose to be patient. So on some days he would say “Lö tan IDee”- (Switch on Idowu) then weekends “Lö tan Àlàbá” (switch on Alaba). 🤔
I couldn’t but notice that in the same compound over my fence, I hear murmurs of the Neighbours’ grievances about the cacophony of the generators the man has named as kids. One even threatened once to strangulate the lousiest of the Gens (I’m guessing Alaba). #LoveThyNeighbour
Alaba is his beloveth that I once complained about of having the dubious character of feigning death but never gets to die. It oscillates in dissonance all through the night giving the neighbors hell. On Alaba’s shifts, no one sleeps. It’s a compulsory vigil. #LoveThyNeighbour
Alaba was so notorious that the entire street named it Kòkúmó (which means it never dies again) or Gbékúdè (DeathStalker). Then came this new neighbor, a serving Naval officer, whose window is now close to ALABA’s spot. #LoveThyNeighbour
Here I was still mourning & catching up on tweets after a long day of torrential interviews. Then I heard for the first time on a weekday the accent of Alaba storming to a start. Then all of the sudden I heard it choke and gave up the ghost. I knew something was up. 🤔
Then I heard “Brami Brami! (my brother, my brother!) Wón mà tï pà Àlàbá a! (They have killed Àlàbá). At first I thought it was a human being then I remember this is a pseudonym for their favorite undying old discordant generator. I knew there will be trouble so I paid attention.
The man stormed out as though one of his children just got hit by a truck and bellowed “Ìyaláya tä ló pà Àlàbá?!” (Whose progenitor killed Alaba?!) 🤔 There was deafening silence. At this point I needed to climb something in order not to miss any frame. #LoveThyNeighbour
Note to Self : Snooping, Snitching & Tweeting can not be incorporated into a simultaneous equation. I almost fell off my ladder. Just a second. Can’t afford a hunchback right now. I’ll be right back. ⚠️
It turned out that the Naval Officer yanked off ALABA’s choke while in motion. Suffice to say it was a tragic death that must have knocked the cylinder. I heard the brother say “Wón tï já Choke ę” (they have ripped out the choke). From all indication oil was all over the place.
Murder indeed was the case but who will confront the Naval officer? The rest of the frustrated Neighbours in their compound were all full of excitement taking vantage position to see how this ends. Many of them offered rechargeable lights to avoid excuses that may stall the bout.
At this point Papa Alaba the King Of Gens tamed his anger walking cautiously to the door of the naval officer in a separate structure attached to my fence. I’ve never seen such a thoughtful knock in my life. It was calculated and took minutes to initiate as though it was a deity.
At this point my wife started calling “Honey I need your help” I told myself I’d rather risk a divorce than miss a frame in this historic encounter that hallmarks a long lasting peace. This is my Live-Netflix moment and it comes once in 40 years. May we not miss our moment.
Yeah I ignored my wife. First time in eleven years.
Before papa Alaba could end his last knock on the door the door swung open and we all gasped in concert. This is it!
Nobody born of a woman knew Papa Alaba has a reserved Falsetto voice for such a time as this. From the fence I almost felt this part of the flick was a voice over from one of the Paloma series. He whimpered...”but Oga you suppose tell me if I offend you na”
I wasn’t the only one disappointed in the accidental piety Of Papa Alaba, who we thought would have opened the floor with a blinding slap on the face of the assailant of his beloved Alaba. But God works in miraculous ways...
He was about to finish his sentence when the Naval officer shoved him aside like he was a make shift curtain of a beer parlor. He took off his shirt and from the sight of what we all agreed was his chest, papa Alaba had no chance in Hell to compete or complain further.
We all held our breath as the ‘chested’ Naval Officer waltz back into his apartment and slammed the door. Papa Alaba cautiously remained where he was shoved to avoid any sudden movement that may be interpreted as defiance. Long story short, we have peace now. Rest in Peace Alaba.
I once told of one of my old bosses who felt my diligence & conscientiousness weren’t sincere. From his experience no one can demonstrate excellence without wanting something back. I wasn’t even 20 then. He did all he could to frustrate me or catch me off guard. #BeingSEGA 🤓
Unfortunately for him, I was never on guard. That was my authentic self and I kept things truthful so I don’t ever have to remember anything. That was my Industrial attachment year. Fast forward, after graduation, he ended up asking me to take up managing the firm. #StayTrue
At this time there’re several offers competing for my attention. I took the most challenging one & went on to build the most advanced media firm in Africa as at the time. Thanks to Distinguished @opebanwo whose belief in the younger generation, paved way for the magic to happen.
Those seeking instant breaks should realize the difference between riches and wealth. Stumbling on money doesn’t make you rich neither will it suddenly open up opportunities for you in the circles of the rich. Influence goes with affluence. People will check your background. 💰
If you think driving big cars and throwing money around is what being wealthy is all about, you are just a hopeless Yahoo enthusiast.
The wealthy send their children to finishing school to learn the carriage and character of their status. Let the human billboards take note. ⛱
If you must succeed what you need is not just a pile of paper money but a cash flow & this comes either from investment in a business or in yourself. Have you found purpose? How much can you learn from what you enjoy doing passionately? Can others benefit from it enough to pay U?
Bishop, I drum it into my children’s ears always that I’m only doing God’s work by raising them right, it‘s not an obligation for them to take care of me. If it were, God would have made me a Bush Rat that suckles on the teat of its ward. Since I’m human, He’ll take care of me.🚶🏾♂️
So I have managed my expectations, insured myself against the future and won’t be surprised. I took care of my parents and I will not want to put a burden on my children. All we have is the present. It pays to live passionately, dance in the rain, take trips & enjoy life.
The only Legacy we ideally owe the kids is EDUCATION & occasional wise counsel embedded in stories that’ll live on in their hearts when we are gone. As we raise kids that will live in the society, we must contribute to society for our children’s sakes. Leave a good name at least.
“If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do.
If someone maintains that two and two equals five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you should feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction.
The most savage controversies are those about matters as to which there is no good evidence either way.
Persecution is used in theology, not in arithmetic, because in arithmetic, there is knowledge, but in theology, there is only opinion.
Every time an opportunity presents itself for our youth to engage leaders in the society, they waste such opportunity with attitudes that justifies their relegation. Rather than aim to score a point or trend with rants and popular gossips, why not ask questions that matter? ⛱
The woke-culture styled belligerent and uncultured engagement of the left wing press with Trump is not a standard. They were doing this as a means of auditioning to be tapped for rattling/triggering the President. They know the reward in endorsement & book deals.
What would your gain be in Nigeria? A 3-4 hour feature on the Twitter trend table? And then what?
It may take years before you get this but I will say it all the same. Every time you speak or share your views, it is read and heard as though you’re speaking for your generation.
There’re many Nigerians stuck abroad living in abject poverty & horrendous impecuniosity. Some of them were once professionals & mildly educated for self sustenance until the need to declare their insolvency. It even gets worse with the current pandemic induced hardship for most.
But this doesn’t excuse criminality in any clime.
Nigeria being a dystopian society, where the electorates are easily swayed by falsehood to the point of stampeding the worst of souls into public office, people stranded abroad often get unmerited awards from the ruining class.
This is why you’ll find a sitting Governor illegally Award Contract to stranded souls at the expense of the suffering masses in his state as part of his strings of failure in office.
It doesn’t take the study of psychology to find such worthless souls spread falsehood…
